Just so everyone knows, a square mile would typically be limited to a mile high COA. To have a 50,000 foot COA usually requires about a five mile radius at least and preferably 7-8 miles.
A five mile radius launch site requires almost 79 square miles or 50,560 acres.

From an occupied building, not necessarily under your control, unless I'm mistaken

A cool/ weird idea for a national launch site, would be a Build Barn workshop style setup, with lockers people could rent. Fly out to wherever this is, take an uber to the donkey rental, ride a donkey out to the site, open your locker and go launch.

Could even work for....dare I say it.... mixing. ( storage would be a logistical nightmare...i know i know. we're dreaming right?)

Funny - an idea like this is proposed, and suddenly everyone becomes practical. Grown men building huge model rockets and burning up a Benjamin for each launch is not practical. Fun? Yes. Has great educational value? Yes? Best use of money? Err, maybe? ;-)

Finding land in New Mexico, west Texas, or the Dakotas probably wouldn’t be that hard or expensive. Another option: sign a right to use lease with a large landowner/rancher. Many of the ranchers here in the Southwest allow all kinds of shenanigans on their land - military training, new arms testing, etc. Get the rancher interested in HPR, give him free motors, sign a lease, and drop a double wide in the sagebrush for a clubhouse. Yeah, it is modest. But, it’s a start.

Or just continue on as we do and not have a facility paid for by all the membership, that most will never see. The roving LDRS and NARAM events allow far more people to attend over the course of time than a single location. Next years LDRS will be in Utah and I am planning to attend, KS, NY, GA too far, most wont travel more than 12hours for a large event.
