I have recently gotten back into rockets after a 20 year absents. I'm still into low power but would like to come out and see what Mid and high power are all about.

Are spectators welcomed?

Don't just spectate... FLY LOW POWER!!! Low power rockets are totally welcome at Midwest Power!!! :D

A few years ago I stuffed a composite D motor (18mm) into an Estes rocket. It went scary high :eek::eek: There is so much open space at MWP that it wasn't hard at all to see it come down and recover it. Hard to believe that was HALF my lifetime ago:rolleyes:o_O:rolleyes:o_O - the composite motor totally melted the plastic motor mount.

This- totally don't need a GIANT ROCKET ON AN N MOTOR to have fun there!

If you want to get into MPR, LOC precision and Wildman have some smaller kits that can be flown on F+G type motors.

edit: at my first MWP, the largest motor I flew was an F, on a LOC Precision Weasel.

Unfortunately I can't make it due to having to work full time, being recently widowed and having to care for a PDD autistic spectrum son now. BTW he's doing great and would be able to come to launches and travel with me. An 8 year old in a 25 year old body and no longer with any behavior problems. Maintaining my memberships in the rocketry groups and will be retiring in 24 months at Medicare age......... I will be back! Maybe might be able to come next year.
That was my lovely wife in my Avatar. She "tolerated" my activities but had no direct interest. Kurt

Kurt, glad to hear some parts of your life are going better. We'll still be here next year (hopefully).

Heck yes if you have a rocket bring it out and get certified

Thanks for the invite. I have a couple of Estes Majestic's I could fly on E and F power. Really just want to come out an meet people and see what the high power stuff is all about.

I picked up a completed PML AMRAAM 2 from a guy locally as part of a Rocket parts lot that he was selling. I honestly know nothing about composites or reloads but looking forward to the education.

I'll be there with or without my rockets.

Is there going to be any drag race specials this year?
MWP 17 will be here before we know it.

Haven’t heard anything from Tim about it. We would be limited to smaller motors and smaller rockets due to the safe distance rules in place by Tripoli.

Should be another great year, I probably wont be flying much if anything just enjoying the event and volunteering wherever needed.

With the anti drag race rules that are now in place its almost impossible to do drag races anymore

Unfortunate but with a bunch of pieces raining down from good sized shredded rockets, it was only a matter of time before a negative event occurred that all would regret. I suspect it was the impetus for the rules to prevent a bad outcome.
That said, I was glad I was there to witness the N5800 drag race some years ago. But remember, I’m speaking from the point of view of a “retrospectroscope” as no adverse, human involved mal-event happened during that launch.
Still, it was one of the most exciting rocket launches I’ve ever witnessed. Kurt Savegnago

Kurt the parts coming down at mwp was nothing compared to the carnage I witnessed at balls when you feel a lawn dart impact 6 miles away it will wake you up

The key point there it was 6 miles away and far from a sparsely populated area. Experiencing a multiplicity of heavy rocket pieces from up close and personal distance where a nose cone can skewer ones skull is a different matter. I suspect that is what generated changes in the rules. Jes’ say’in. Kurt

Will there be a rail at the Estes pads for supervised kids that want to fly Class 1 rockets? If so, AWESOME!!! If not, may I offer to donate a rail pad to the near pads? ...yes, we have several E-F-G powered rockets with rail buttons.

Thanks!

I'll try to figure out a way to make it happen...

Looking to borrow an AMW, Loki or research 38-640 case.
In the way back of my rocket closet I found an AMW I375 Green Gorilla. Still in the original heat sealed bag.
Cant find any of my old AMW cases.
Ill be at MWP all 3 days.

I'm pretty sure 38mm AMW loads won't fit a Loki case... or will fit, but lots of space between the liner and the case itself. You'll need an AMW or clone case to fit this.

JB

I can help you out with the AMW 38/640 hardware. Ill be at MWP Saturday and Sunday.

Preston

Thanks Preston, that be great. Im working pad manager all 3 days 9 ~ 11. You can find me there. Thanks!

Nice looking fleet!!!:):):)

So, 4 weeks out...what y'all flying??? I'm getting kinda amped up here!!!

Hi Eric. Are you using standard rail buttons on the smaller rockets or the mini rail buttons? Reworking the small crayon rocket for Kristin"s godchild. It flew at Bong May 2018, but came down in one of the ponds. Thanks Greg

Standard buttons. We do have a mini-rail for our Lil' local club; but that tends to not get used as frequently, and typically used with low power sized rockets.

Glad to hear the crayon is making a comeback. If you need something, let me know!

Is it legal to do a 2 rocket drag race on H or I reloads?

Anything is "legal" if you're following the required minimum distances based on total installed impulse (and other rules). The issue with the MWP drag races is that the safe distance basically would have the rockets launching in the next county.

FYI- Tripoli rules state that a "drag race" is 3 or more rockets, so for two rockets on H motors, you can just put them on the H rails.

- assuming of course that these are not two stagers. Not sure what the official QCRS rules are, but in my personal opinion, HPR multistage drag races should not be allowed at all.
