I like it, that paint job came out great. Did you mask all the colors on the fins, or are those decals?

All masked. (That's why it's taken a couple months). I don't want to think about trying to create a decal graphic for the nosecone

Nytrunner, great finish work, looks awesome!

Thanks! It isn't mirror finished, but I like to think it'd look good hanging under a wing

I know it's the beak for the phoenix motif, but to me it looks like the bill of a...

Duck!

Duck, duck, Boom

That is something you won't see another of. Certainly unique and I can imagine the amount of effort that must have gone into the masking. A phoenix of a phoenix, who would have thought it :)

Here's my resin print collection so far. The two green ones were done on the OMG Photon. The rest were done on my Photon. They're in the window trying to catch some UV rays to cure. However, with the seasonal hazy and diminishing daylight, and the fact my southern exposure is towards a big brick house, they're probably not getting that much. I'm going to take them to OMG tonight and use their curing box until I get my own eBay UV LEDs to make my own.

And with the other type of 3D printer, here's another attempted Aero-Pad leg test print that got aborted 82% of the way in because of wicked layer shift. I'm going to start a thread about it in the 3D forum after I get more coffee in me.

Who'd thought that 3D printing could be such a black art? And sometimes such a little Soap Opera?

It did take time, but friskit masking film really helped make things smoother. I could draw a piece right on the film, and use it as a blank to make the other fins (vinyl cutter would really help that process, but then I'd have to go design the graphics, and at that point it'd be easier to get a wrap.....)

The nose is rougher since I don't have the art of drawing (and then cutting) on a conic surface down pat, plus the edges are harder to stick on the ogive.

Should still be light enough for the J150 too!

And the fact that window glass is very good at blocking UV so not much gets through.

Careful there. If you haven't already (likely you're a step ahead of me) check the spectrum of the LEDs and compare to the spectrum of the curing box. UV LEDs are generally very long wave, and won't do for many purposes.

I went back and checked; The reputed wavelength is 395-405nm and the resin cures at 405nm. Is this slightly on the low side or will it still work?

No, that's great. The shorter the wavelength the more energetic, so the peak (at or near 400) being shorter than the requirement means you've got some margin. Full speed ahead.

The Soap Continues and the plot thickens. I tore the CR10-s5 half apart and found that the binding was the glass was rubbing against the frame enough to wear a groove. It's back together and running again. Also, I'm wondering if Photon files on thumb-drives get corrupted easy or just aren't 100% compatible with Macs?

Started building this. 12-9 volt. Not finished. Needed a good launch control.

Like the box but lose the 9v. they are terrible and don't last. Use Lipo or NiMH batteries, you can get them cheap on Amazon or Ebay or from anyplace that sells RC-Cars/ Drones, etc. Then you can add a charging port...

Here is my controller. 15ah Gel cells, with wireless fireworks controller to engage relays. IMG_20191017_095321712.jpg

Bee I have so many 12volt Nimh packs for my RC submarines I had planned to use those. Li-poly I use for my planes and jets but I prefer Nimhs for everything else. No memory issues so I don't worry if they are left full charge, half charge or if they run down below 3.4. Thanks for the tips. Lovely controller. One day I must learn how to construct such a controller but I just got my Section certificate from the NAR and we are officially Section #855 with our first meeting on Nov. 7th were I hope to assign one of our members to making a multi launch control for your local launch site. Being a section director certainly is challenging.

I know that's the name of the Tripoli event for 'reasons', but perhaps a more diplomatic title could've been chosen for a book describing our hobby....?
There are times I wish the word “Dangerous” was between sneer quotes so people understood the intent.
When I don't know who's asking I say it's "Let's Do Rockets Safely" :-D

I found a really nice, perfect size TinTin rocket which i'm going to convert to real flying model.
3D print, it's about 16" when finished.
