I live in Ventura. I was curious if there's anyone in this town or area. Maybe we could find a land owner that would let us launch from time to time if it's all covered by our NAR insurance. At least for LPR to MPR.

Would love to hear from some of you. I know there's people buying rocket supplies from my friend Verne at Ventura Hobbies. Would love to hook up with you.

ROC is hardly local to Ventura, they're about 160 miles apart.

"Rocketeers local to me..."

Amen to that question....I live in Dayton, TX and I was wondering if there are any fellow rocketeers/TAPS in this area...
There are so many of acres with so much flying potential...

NASA Rocket club is...well...in Houston....maybe some day, ...but don't care for Houston.....I was stuck living there too long....43 years...

...and Houston Tripoly Club.... they fly in Hearn, Tx.....CLOSER to AUSTIN than they are to Dayton...

So....
Anyone in the Dayton/Liberty, TX area????

Tripoly# 18748

Gotta be someone in this area!!!

GOOD POST STEVENEILL!!!

I live in Lompoc. I've often thought about starting a club in our area, but I've not dedicated any time to finding a suitable launch site. I don't really have a home field, but I attend launches at Cantil (FAR), Lucerne (ROC), Holtville (Tripoli San Diego), Black Rock, and formerly Helm (Tripoli Central California).

A large number of rocket folks aren't on TRF, so it's possible you may not connect with locals here.

I'd recommend leaving your contact info with Verne at Ventura Hobbies and asking him to pass it along to the people buying the rockets.

The Southern California Rocketry Association (SCRA) has launches two or three times a month at the Santa Fe Dam near Irwindale.

Here's a website for this NAR Section:

https://home.earthlink.net/~mebowitz/

I drive up from San Diego (110 miles each way) several times a year to fly at this site.

Too far. 4 hours of driving to test out a new design or for local families to attend is too far. I know all about them.

We have our own section now I created through NAR. Section 855. Ventura Rocketeers. We are working with the city to find a sight for low power flights and to work with the local youth, schools, scouts, STEM and more. Many of the local families here who have children who love rocketry find it a hardship to either travel to ROC (which I'm also a member of) so for for many reasons ranging from affording the time to the cost of gas which is blatantly over priced. I am friends with Verne BTW and he's a member of the Section and contributing.

On my SNG Aero page is a list of members so far but out of 28 local members on the NAR list 20 of them have ignored my emails, some said flat out no. https://sngaero.wordpress.com/ventura-rocketeers-nar-section-855/ Our first meeting is at 7pm on the 7th of Nov at my studio in Ventura. If you'd like to come to the meeting you can help us with our efforts to create a local site.

In some of the emails I received I was told we should go to Santa Fe. Again it's an hour and a half drive there if theres is no traffic. Return trip is more than 2 hours because there's always heavy traffic. Add to that during the summer it's extremely hot at Santa Fe. Here in Ventura it would be in the 50-60s in the morning at 7 am and by 12pm around 73 at the most.

So join us. Help us reach kids that will one day take their passion for aviation to the stars. If you want a Star Trek Future it begins here. "Pay it forward."

Hello Steve! I joined this forum specifically to do research on launch sites within proximity to Ventura and here I find your original post from 2019!

MDARS. Tripoli prefect.. Near Boron. Great group of folks. Flew at ROC for years.

My only launch group is about three hours away, but it is where it is, when it is. Next one is twice as far away, and is still below 10k feet. I count my blessings, because if I want to break 15k, I'll have to drive over 1,000 miles.

Make it a picnic, bring drinks, sandwiches, etc... Enjoy the dry air and clear visibility. Lots of us on the east side of the Mississippi would give our eye teeth for desert launch options.

Take some pictures for us.
