I just wanted to post a rocket video I took last weekend. It was taken at the site of NSL for next year in Southern Colorado. The launch field is wide open next to a lot of farm lands but it is actually located on a quarry. The scrub brush is about ankle high so recovery is easy.

Really excellent video! Thanks for the "rockets-eye" view of the launch site.

Thanks for the great video! We had tried to find this site on Google maps, with less than adequate results. Your video really nails it down.
Sharon and I are looking forward to attending this NSL launch next year.

The NSL Website is live!
Event Director Matt Abbey and members of the San Luis Valley Rocketeers (SLVR #774) of Alamosa, CO are ready for members to begin registering for their inaugural event. Alamosa is a small, front range town, located at 7,600 feet. It's about 2 hours southwest of Pueblo, and under four hours from either Albuquerque, NM or Denver, Co. Enough can't be said about how awesome this launch site is. BIG, flat, and with low ground cover and no spiny plants and a waiver to 12,000 feet!

There are three different hotel price ranging from the $99/night Dunes Hotel (recently renovated; $149/night Comfort Inns and Suites (dog friendly), and the $169/night Hampton Inn. All are providing complimentary Wifi and breakfast.

Matt and his section are busting their tails to make this a terrific event and though a bit off the beaten path, it's going to be well worth making the trip to this year's NSL. Plan your NSL trip today and register!

looks to be a fun launch. All signed up, I signed up for a volie shift each day, bought a shirt and hatpin. Now where did I put that M motor?

Wayco and I have registered, signed up for two shifts of duty each and registered for the free camping. Looking forward to the Welcome Brewery event!

Planning to attend with my wife, registered and signed up to volunteer as well. I see a recommendation to up-size parachutes due to the altitude, is there a general rule for how much to up-size at this altitude?

I’ve been wondering about that as well, as I’m on the cusp of registering. I grew up in that part of the world, but not quite as high as they are in Alamosa. I expect I’ll be taking the reefing off of a lot of my LPR models. But for MPR stuff (that would use a Chute Release anyway), I might have to swap in the next regular size up.

Looks like a nice site for another fantastic NSL! I will definitely be there with a duckmobile full of 10K-ish rockets.

I've registered and signed up for two volunteer shift.

My current planned flights:
  • Madcow Trinity "CHAOS" lunching on J800T then airstarting 3x G138T 1.8 sec after lift off
  • Madcow Nike-Tomahawk 2 stage "Hammer Anvil". 1st stage lifts off on a J800T and 2nd stage ignites a J460T.
  • 5.5" Madcow Pike AGM-33 "HAVOC" flying on a L1365M.
  • Wildman Lance Delta "MAYHEM" flying on a K456DM.

Just registered! Rockets tentative, but hoping to fly (and I know this is tempting fate)

  • 2 x upscale Screaming Green Meenie "Sgt. Schlock" - still needs final paint and e-bay in nose completed

Then it's in the laps of the Rocket Gods what else I actually complete/repair in time to fly...

The NAR is going to make an announcement concerning the status of the NSL on Wednesday, May 6th.

Stay tuned...

We're supposed to get an update tomorrow (in another place someone said there's an NAR board meeting on Thursday at which they will decide). But Colorado is now in the post-full-lockdown phase they are calling "Safer at Home" which runs until midnight on May 26th. Here's what it says about recreation:

My read of that is that NSL will have to be canceled, though I suppose that something creative could be worked out with the county in which Alamosa is located.

My wife is quite reticent about making a four-state (plus our own) road trip to get there, so we will very likely cancel our attendance, even if the event goes on. *sigh*

Has anyone heard if an official final decision has been reached?

NSL-2020 Becomes NSL-2021 The NAR is postponing NSL-2020 in Alamosa, CO. It will now be held in Alamosa, May 29-31 in 2021 (Saturday-Monday). National Events is working closely with NSL Event Director Matt Abbey and the members of the San Luis Valley Rocketeers regarding the rescheduling. Updates will be announced as soon as details and arrangements are finalized regarding the launch site and the hotels in Alamosa. All currently paid registration fees will be refunded. If you booked a hotel room for NSL 2020, please call and cancel. You will not be charged any cancellation fees.

I am glad and not-glad that it has been postponed. Wayco and I were really looking forward to this launch....and then the virus...and we've been stressing about it ever since. Do we go (and potentially get exposed) or not go (and miss out on what we KNOW will be an awesome NSL).

I'm looking forward to 2021 for this launch and we have it in our calendar.
