No. Got all my engines from all flights. I used high temp hot glue. Primed with craft foam primer and top coat with Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint.

I'm surprised it took any damage; I've had parachutes come down faster than that thing (and perfectly horizontal, too!).

Saw a thread on YORF where they discussed rockets by Pitsco and Estes where you have to build your own body tube and remembered I had this in the build pile:

So of course I had to build it.

Cardboard mandrel for shaping body tube:

Recovery gear rigged to Jadebox's method I learned today:

The tube was constructed by taking a piece of regular copy paper and convolutely gluing it to itself on the mandrel, then taking one strip of the orange wrap, wetting the adhesive backing with a damp sponge, and doing a right hand spiral, butting the seams together. Follow with a second piece doing a left hand spiral.
My kind of rocket. No filling, sanding, primer or paint.
An interesting build exercise, but I see why this was probably not a big seller.
More of a niche product for the educational sector.
Easier to just sub a bt-50 tube.
I can cut quite a few bt-50 couplers from the mandrel though. I think it's long coupler tubing.

My 3D printed sidewinder acted more like a missile than a rocket this weekend.



I'm sure the issue was the last-minute switch from an Aerotech E30 to an Estes E12. The extra weight and the fact that it hung about 1" out the back surely shifted CG towards the aft.

The rocket was mostly unscathed, and even if it was damaged, its easy to print replacement parts.

Here's the thrust curve right after ignition for the E30:

The E12 is giving you way less speed off the rod. I'd look to that for the cause of the horizontal flight before the CG shift.

The last minute swap was due to the fact that I buggered the igniter that came with the E30, and neither I nor anyone else at the launch had spares small enough to fit in the tiny nozzle.

I looked in my launch box and found a E12 and an e-match. And then Go Fever took over.

The squirrel rocket is underway. After the Shenzhou, this one is an easy and fun build. Maybe I'm just putting of the WAC Corporeal, which looks pretty intense. Or perhaps it's all for the squirrels? In any case, I love the MASSIVE acorn nose cone.

If the lighting was low, as in overcast skies, or a launch near dawn or dusk, the exhaust can really show the orange flame.
