Unfortunately the link to your enertek story has been lost to the gods of internet time

As for Enertek, here's a link to a thread that has a pretty good history and pictures, too!

Never mind

I've read the PS story. I refer to the Enertek story

Update: which upon some assumption and fingerCrossing, I have found here (vv)

The link to rocketry forum archives goes to a poached domain. Fortunately the forum migration to new hosting has returned a bunch of the archived stuff

I see... When importing fin shapes into OR, the fin needs to point to the left, with the root edge at the bottom. I probably mirrored the image to allow me to do that.

No problem . . . It's much easier to read the ruler in non-mirrored format . . . I didn't know that about Open Rocket.

This is one of the most interesting topics on the Rocketry Forum. I am a big fan of the PS kits. I like how people are building PS kits from parts. Last year I built a Leviathan from parts. The motor tube, upper body tube, lower body tube and coupler were purchased from Estes. I bought the NC and CRs from Balsa Machining Services. I got an Aeropak retainer. The shock cord is from Loc Precision. I had a left over fin from my Scion kit which uses the same fins. I took the fin to a wood working shop and had them make the fins for $20. Thanks for the information about Big Red Daddy.
In addition to the Leviathan I have the PS Big Bertha, Sahara, Partzion and Scion.
Has anyone tried flying a PS kit on an E16 BP motor?

I've flown the first four builder kits with plywood fins on F15-4 engines. They don't go real high but are nice fliers.

You mean
9700: Leviathan
9701: Ventris
9702: Partizon
9703: Argent
?

I'll have to sim them--I didn't think the F15-4 had enough wheaties for the Partizon.

Well, JumpJet happens to be an extermemly talented builder and can probably make them somewhat lighter than the average joe-overbuild

Well, if you can keep the final weight down to 17-20 ounces, launch in low winds, using a clean 4/5 ft-ish launch rod/rail, you should be able to get one of those PSII builder kits in the air safely on an E16-4 or F15-4. Like Mr. Boren said though - it’s not going very high - a Leviathan would hit 370 feet or so, coming off the rod at 26 ft/sec over a F15-4.

I wonder if the thin air of Penrose CO had any effect. We all know Jumpjet designed these puppies and flight-tested the prototypes, right ?

That wording made me chuckle. :D
Glad I could help. Breakfast of Champions!

I've flown a Sahara with an E16-4 and I'll try an F15-4, but not the Partizon, and I'm not sure about the Leviathan. The RSO would be very skeptical of a flight leaving the rod under 35 ft/sec.

Does anyone know the URL for Big Red Daddy. I did a Google search and did not find anything.

It's me. I don't have a website or anything. Just a FB marketplace listing so far. You can contact me at tobyvanderbeek at Gmail.com.

My first mid-power build with my son was the Estes Ventris. I’ve wanted another ever since, but missed buying another one till now.

Saw Big_Red_Daddy had reproductions and contacted him. Had it two days from payment along with a baffle upgrade, some plywood Star Orbiter fins and rings. He also added some extra Kevlar so I could replace the aging elastic in our original Ventris. Kit looks great. Can’t wait to put it together!

H-MINUS!

The Ventris is a great kit, someone in my club has one and he did a great job building and painting it. I always wanted to get a Leviathan but by the time I got around to buying one they were no longer available. Fortunately Estes still carried most of the parts. Plus the fact Big_Red_Daddy is a great resource for Pro Series kits. It would be great if Estes could somehow develop composite motors. A few years ago there was a company called Road Runner that made great composite engines. Unfortunately they were not in business all that long.

I went on a road trip to the Hobby Lobby in Seabrook, NH and picked up a Cherokee E. I forget what I paid but is was a discounted price. I'll probably get working on it this weekend. That ESAM-58 looks good.

A friend just picked up a Cherokee E for me at Hobby Lobby. I'm thinking about offering it as a 2x upscale (2.6") kit if there is interest. Stickershock has the decals.

There seems to be plenty of Cherokee kits out there. I have a scratch built D, which is a copy of my original from 1970s. Just finished the E from hobby. It only needs paint. And my G just arrived.
Looks like a good 3" kit.

I like the Hobby Lobby kits and glad I got the E.

I did hear some rumors about Estes's plan for their PS. It sounds like ownership is keeping the 29mm BP for now. Gotta admit I like those motor.

Very cool rocket project rocket!

The SLV is one of my favorites from Estes to fly so I really want to build a low and slow larger version. I want to pick up a hobby lathe to turn all the cones from wood like the Estes version, also.

I’ve started 3D printing certain parts. Have fun with an SLV Heavy

I did rebuild my Ventris SLV, though I haven’t re-flown it.

These days I’m doing sport scale sounding rockets - from PS II parts.

I love sounding rockets. I've got a collection of Black Brants and IRISs, lol.

I think it would be an extremely poor decision to discontinue 29mm BP motors, since it not only allows for bigger & better kits, but also allows the to compete more effectively against composite motors !
