Here in the failed Socialist State of Calizuela, by law we're not permitted to have standard capacity magazines. We're limited to 10 rounds.

This evening I swapped out my Magpul SOE-SL collapsible stock for an SOE fixed, swapped out my Magpul pistol grip for a "finned" non-pistol grip with a right side "thumb rest", and replaced the birdcage muzzle device with a "thread protector". Oddly, muzzle brakes are still acceptable...but horrendously loud even with a 5.56 to anyone to the left or right of the shooter. The supplied crush washer was way out of time and I couldn't find my peel washers so the muzzle brake is still in the box.

When I was much younger, my folks owned an armored car company in the South Pacific and we had class III weapons: Wire stocked Paratrooper M2 carbines with that weird front pistol grip. They were widely available from the Phillipines back then. Never had any trouble with robberies.

Those were the days. Island life, cool guns, and all the mil surp ammo you could ever want. What a long strange trip it's been.

ACOG's are sick, I wish they were not worth every penny, but they are.

Which model specifically are you looking at?

I’m looking hard at the TA44. I want something close to a RDS without the blurry red dot. I like the idea of the slight magnification and the wide field of view. It will be a good fit for my DD V7LW. It’s also the closest thing to irons I can get, ie no BDC.

Ughhh well I’ve finally bought not one handgun but TWO! Yes I liked the HK VP9 LE series so much that I even took one fully apart and put a the HKparts ultra match rear sear spring in. Haven’t been on here in awhile but I did renew my Tripoli membership. Joined Blackiron shooting range and gladly doing that every other weekend until rocketry season starts in Oklahoma in fall again. Even got a Larry Vickers Raven concealment holster. And now I’m eyeing a B&T TP9N for an SBR project pending driver’s license update. Love punching the bullseye out at ten yards and I haven’t shot anything in three years. Put about 3.1k rounds through the OD green one: zero malfunctions with CCI brass blazer fmj 115gr.

Personally I hate the aesthetic of the AR in how they're dressed out. Does any vendor make a sporter (think wood sporting stock, not AR sporter) for AR type rifles? I love my 586 Ranch rifle, but it is no where near as accurate as a well made AR out of the box.

Check with Brownells, they were making a line of retro AR's and do not hold me to it, but I thought I saw a wood stocked one.

Remember that Gene Stoner's design is the ultimate adult Tinker Toy or LEGO set... Pretty much everything is interchangeable.

To your question, specifically, there are wood furniture sets (real wood, and laminates) for the Armalite pattern.

I think Turnbull Restorations even did one that was case-colored with select-grade wood, once

How do you like the trigger on your HK VP9? I'm not a fan of striker fired pistols due to the heavy long gritty creepy break

You need one of these!! Easy to load a couple thousand rounds over a weekend and still get the chores done. Could probably save enough money in a year to pay for a level III rocket

I agree, but have been concentrating on 3d printing stuff and rocket motor parts, you can also use that thing to pre fill little canisters with accurate measured ejection charges for charge well canisters in you dual deploy stuff!

Most of those style powder measures are not safe to use with BP, yes the powder measure will very accurately measure powder charges by volume but BP powder measures usually have brass rotors instead of steel, both RCBS and Lee make special versions of their rotary powder measures just for BP and Dillon may as well.

Actually, the only ones I had ever seen were made of brass, I would never use anything in contact with a flammable material of any kind unless it was non-sparking. (IE brass) ... just saying.

Hi Folks;

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it's really interesting how so many of the folks on the forum seem to think along similar lines. Along with my many other character flaws, I'm a dedicated rocketeer and a certified gunsmith. I build my own in both areas. I guess that maybe we are all of a type that just loves to see large spontaneous releases of energy. It sure works for me.

Nah, I have no interest in picking up the amount of brass my M4 spits out. I used to reload on a Rock Chucker and enjoyed it a great deal but reloading 556 is not worth the effort. I'll eventually start reloading again for 38/357 though. I have been saving brass for a good while now.

Wow, if you don't want it, send it to me. I only have a single stage press, and I do a lot of work by hand. It's a great way to pass time watching TV. Most of the operations are done by touch rather than by eye. When it comes to throwing/dropping the powder, though, that gets all of my attention.

I picked up another long range rifle this year, a Remington 700 Long Range chambered in 30-06. I mounted a nice SWFA SS 3-15X42 front focal plane scope on it, along with a nice cheek riser and bi-pod. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but Fall is coming!! What I like about this platform, is the Long Range series comes with a nice Bell & Carlson stock and a varmint profile barrel from Remington for $649!! The Long Range series are Magnum chambered or long action rifles, like 7MM; 300WM; 25-06 etc. 30-06 was a no-brainer for me, as I also shoot the M1 Garand in 30-06.

I do reload my own.....haven't shot much at all in decades....got a deer in '06...a hog in '05...
Lost my favorite 2 guns many years back....my Savage 22-250 and a Winchester 70 in 7mm Mag...
That's the one I got the deer and the hog with...I bedded the barrel and it turned out to be a tack driver!!!
The 22-250 I had just put a new stainless hog barrel on...it was a tack driver with the original barrel (which I still have)
but times were tough and they are gone.....
Anyway... that's my smokless "rocket shooters".....

Been shooting high power and small bore shiloette for years. It's all off- hand from 200 meters out to 500 meters. (Small bore out to 100 meters) I'm shooting a custom built Rem 700 in 7m-08 holding 2" at 500 meters. Sure gets one thinking when the tool is perfect you must be the accuracy problem.

Yep, the vast majority of my firearms with custom handloaded ammo are more accurate than I can be unsupported...

I too have never been a fan of the AR-10 movement....I've always thought that if
you are gonna use a "22" caliber projectile, what wrong with the 22-250???
It shoots the same projectile regardless of weight aprox 400 fps faster across the board and isn't much heaver/smaller than the 5.56...

I like the old school solid stock of the original but with 308 caliber (AR-15)...if you HAVE to go to "battle" do you want a 22 or a 30 caliber???
The math seems pretty simple to me.....

I have a nice 22-250, Ruger 77, synthetic stock with scope and bipod. Great for rabbits at 200 yards. I usually try to go for a nose shot so I have ears attached to pick them up later. It is quite brutal if you don't place your shots well. 3800fps out the muzzle IIRC.

Oh, and a laser sight for close-in work .
