That's how business is done. Offer more value to the customer for what they pay, and you'll get more customers. Win-win.

Oh, I think it's a reasonable strategy. And it answers Dr Wogz' question: if it works, it won't be one time. And Mike's - he's not a supporter, so he can't post to that area. I'm guessing they still have to follow certain drawing/contest rules in some state, so there's a manual entry method described in the post.

Having said that, there is the 'mail in option'. But is that the old fashioned way or an envelope & stamp? or an e-mail? (And like all contests, they are supposed to offer it "no purchase necessary" hence the mail-in option..)

And, as always: "Offer void in Quebec"

Stick your name on a paper and put in envelope and put a stamp on it, and address and put in the good old Post office for mailing.

To reply to the thread you have to be a TRF Supporter (customer). To enter anyway you can mail them an entry, so spending money at TRF to enter isn't a requirement.
It’s bait to attract more paid subscribers.

Then I expect your entry by snail mail.

And it does get TRF more Supporting Members, it helps to advertise one of our Vendors, and two people will get something 10X the price of a Supporting Membership or price of a stamp.

is this a one time thing?

I hope not. I'll be looking for other vendors to work with in the next few days as this took a bit of time to put together. Now that we have the forum, and several members are Supporting Members it may be easier the 2nd time.

If you know of someone that I should contact, send me a private message and I'll see what can be done.

I actually wouldn't enter by mail. This is an effort to add value for paying members and I think entering outside of that support is undermining the value of the giveaway.

But I also understand that paying for a forum where the (bulk) of the value comes from members' own posts (rather than provided by the host) isn't universally agreed upon. I'd be much more likely to be a paying member if the forum were owned by a not-for-profit. Like I am with public radio.

I think finding ways to provide value above and beyond the content is pretty smart.

Using donations from vendors helps that, and if they get good marketing value from it, then great(!). My view is colored by the alcohol industry, where that kind of donation is actually illegal (yes, I know it's done anyway.) If a charity wants to pour my cider, they have to buy it from my distributor. I get a little twitchy when asked to provide booze for free for 'exposure'. And I wouldn't ask a band to play for 'the exposure' either. Like I said - my views colored by the industry I play in.

I replied in the giveaway before I realized you need to be a supporting member. I have been meaning to do that. So now I have become a supporting member but it doesn't show up under my avatar. Does it take a while for paypal to process and show up or should I delete my entry and redo it?

Oh now it shows up. Cool. Disregard this.

Ahh. I missed the whole supporting member in big blue letters. Apologies for being that guy.
It does make more sense to me to have to be a supporting member, pay to play if ya will.

I'm also one that has been meaning to become a supporter. This is pretty decent incentive and I'll get to it one day. Heck I still have to pay my TRA dues...sheesh.

Well played TRF.

No, no, don't say that. "Pay to play" is gambling and illegal. You can enter for free by mail and you're only paying for the convenience of entering by a forum post.

Exactly.

Angie,
In the first post of the sign-up thread you state that the winners will be drawn on the 2nd, but you do not state how they will be notified. Will it be there in the sign-up thread? Here in this thread? By PM?

Posted on the thread. I'll go add that.
