Centuri way worked perfectly for me using Rust-Oleum 2x flat paint... Since this is the Centuri Saturn V, a mere 40+ years in the making! What's good about putting the white on the black, is that you can touch up the edges with a nice black sharpie...

Did you fly that without the clear plastic add-on fins and on what engine/engines?

Yes, I have a few samples of that... not only foil lined but also somewhat heavier in the wall-thickness-department! I do note that in the cases where I'm using it, the foil does appear to blister above the engine block/hook where it takes the brunt of the ejection heat... but is seems to be more durable overall at least.
