That's right folks last years SodBlaster event was both a huge success and learning experience for TriCities Rocketeers/Tripoli Southeast Washington, so much so that we are doing it again this year. Labor Day Weekend is the weekend with flying all 4 days. More to follow as we finalize stuff.

This years motor theme is Rev it to the Redline-that's right red motors, be it Loki, AT, CTI, or research. All other motors are welcome of course.

This year we will actually have grass on the field, who'd a thunk that SodBlaster I would be sans sod!

We will also be adding M impulse motors to the field for the first time since we now have an away cell and PadZilla (which got initiated last weekend). Our rail selection is Micro, Mini, 1010 (up to 12'),1515 (up to 12'), and Unistrut (currently Unistrut is limited to 10' long), and rods from 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" (iirc). We will have 12 LPR pads, 8+ MPR pads, and 8+ HPR pads (pretty much like last year).

CONTESTS: All prizes are to be drawn from vendor/sponsor support.

Red Motor Challenge: (there will be a separate winner for each category)

Most Total Newtons Flown: aggregate of total impulse of all Red motors a rocketeer flies (please make sure your motors are correctly listed on flight cards so we can get the correct total impulse from the manufacturers data).

And

Most Spectacular Red Flight: The most awesome Red motor powered flight (a committee will determine the winner or we may use a group vote).

Updated:

Big Daddy Structural Stress Test (formerly known as the Confetti Challenge):
The rocket is the Estes Big Daddy there will be two divisions a modified stock and unlimited. How big a motor can your Big Daddy survive (rocket has to be flyable again, and recover safely, to place for points). A flier may enter both contests if so desired.

Mod Stock class: All parts of the Estes Big Daddy kit are required to be used, the only modifications allowed are to replace the lunch lug with rail buttons, replacing the shock cord with kevlar, and up-sizing the motor mount to 29mm (cardboard rings must still be used), replacing the plastic chute with a nylon chute is permitted.

Unlimited: unlike the Mod Stock class....only the nose cone is required to be used, that being said the requirements for the rocket are it must look and have the same dimensions as a stock Big Daddy

Time to stuff a K motor in a Big Daddy... What's the waiver again?

9,000' AGL....getting a K in the form factor of a BigDaddy would be a hoot! Was that the 75/1280 K1499N....:), it does have to be returned in flyable condition. Got a feeling the rocket gods are going to be getting lots of offerings.

Looking forward to the final rules to see what's legal. :)

Time to order some sick red loads for my fleet! I also happen to have an unopened Big Daddy kit in the garage, so, waiting to hear the rules on that one as well.

Do clusters qualify for Mod Stock? All 5 would be 29mm:D

I wonder what's available in 54mm REDs? The Sledgehammer on a big red might put on a show. Of course it will look downright small compared to Rich's!
If I can get my new Tuber built... All Red with a red flame longer than it is?

Hey Rich just a couple of quick questions for you.

Any news on who the vendors will be for this year?

And what is the range of diameters that the tower can accommodate? I still have that Lab Rat 38mm 3D printed sled for an eggtracker that I won in the raffle along with the tracker I bought from Ryan and I'm hoping to fly both in a Madcow mini screech on a range of different motors.

SMT Designs, Sun River Nature Center (Bob Grossfeld, kitsxand motors plus stuff), SBR/Fusion Rockets (kits and motors), those are the ones I know about so far.

Our tower should be okay for up to 54mm possibly 3-4" however its only 6' tall. For your eggfinder checkout the thread on our club forum page to see what freq's people are already using.

Sweet, I'll checkout those freq's

Too bad the new Aerotech G8-ST motors are plugged. Avg. thrust of a couple pounds and a nearly 18 sec burn time in a Big Daddy would be interesting. But alas, I'm assuming adding electronics would fall under the unlimited category?

Other than a JLCR or altimeter like a JL1-3, Firefly etc. That is correct.

TCR would like to put out a request for submission for this years SodBlaster Logo graphic, the event is SodBlaster II and 2019 and Red propellant motors is part of the theme. The logo would need to look good as a patch, hat or t-shirt graphic. Anyone want to help us out? If interested please PM me and I will send you an email contact for myself. Below was last years winning submission.

I flew with some of the guys a week ago and they hadn't heard about the contests for Sod Blaster. Could we get a reposting for the event and contests on the TCR website?

So far we have the following sponsors signed up:

Scott Binder Rocketry/Fusion Rockets
Top Flight Recovery
SMT Designs
Boyce Aerospace Hobbies
Qualman Rocketry
Flightsketch

Vendors so far:
Sun River Nature Center (Motors and Kits LPR to HPR)
Don Johnson/John Ludwig
SBR/Fusion Rockets (Motors and SBR kits)
SMT Designs/Steve Thatcher

Sponsors: the sponsorship requests went out several weeks ago if for some reason you did not receive a request from me maybe I got the wrong email as I tried to use the ones from last year. I did send requests to all of last years sponsors, you guys rocked! If you did not receive my request please contact me via PM or email rh*rsh***[email protected]*t

Vendors: Unlike last year we will not be restricted on vendor space, if you would like to attend please let us know in advance so we can reserve space for you in our vendor area next to the spectator/headquarters area.

Thanks to the input of last years fliers we were able to make some upgrades to our GSE. We now have a heavy duty (very heavy) Coker style pad, that currently has a 10' UniStrut rail with quick change 12' 1515 and 1010 rails.

Also upgraded is the PA system now has a wireless unit that we can put further down the flight line which should improve communications.

Sorry site wide Air Conditioning was not in the budget, but we have put in a request to the rocket gods to keep the temperature as cool as possible and the wind calm.:)

This year we will not be able to offer t-shirts and hats as the vendor is unable to attend.

Did I mention we are only 26 days out from the event?
And that this year we actually have Sod on the field, it was kind of ironic that at the inaugural SodBlaster (2018) it was bare dirt.
