Hello!

First-time post here on TRF, but been reading little over a year. Thought it would make sense first post to connect with a local group!

Been building rockets for about last 4 years, just recently getting in to MPR and finished up on the Estes Argent pictured below "Artemis" (thanks to Stickershock23 for lettering).
Looking to make it out to my first launch in Gunter at some point for its 1st flight and to meet you folks. We live in Wylie so not too far.

Originally from Ft. Worth my whole life until 2011 when we moved to S. Florida (Stuart, FL to be exact), and attended a few launches with Spaceport Rocketry in Palm Bay, FL.
Moved back to Texas (thank goodness to have Whataburger and Braums again), in 2017 and have been continuing on with the hobby since. Taking my time thru MPR, but have goal of at least L1 cert at some point, unsure if I want to go beyond that (wife already thinks I've gone off the deep end LOL), and looking to go to LDRS 2019 this year if we can make the trip (secretly already booked the vacation days.. shhh)

Seen Pyrobob looks to be a good supplier locally, may need to connect with him on 1st motors for the rocket below.. Looking forward to meeting all at some point soon!!!

- Jonathan

DARS has its club meeting in Coppell the first Saturday of the month, such as June 1st. See website for details.

Welcome JRAJ. That Artemis is SAAA-WEET ! By all means contact pyrobob for motors and dars.org for the club info. You're just in time for some hot summer flyin' in our little corner of heaven. If I may make a suggestion, as you climb the impulse ladder consider investing in a Jolly Logic Chute Release. Non-pyro, delayed parachute deployment is just the thing to cut down the long recovery walk.

Thanks Samb! I have been yearning for a JLCR for quite some time....! Especially getting in to G impulse it'll save me a lot of worry in regards to "wow those trees came out of nowhere".
As far as the walk, I swear my kids would trek miles to get my rockets LOL.

Saw that on the website, how cool! I'd like to get by there as well as joining the DAR. What kind of things would I need to know before the monthly meeting - should we bring anything with us?

- Jonathan

By all means bring your Artemis and any other projects. We love show and tell after the business meeting. Bring questions. With enough notice you can order from buyrocketmotors.com (plug) and have the items delivered to the meeting. No hazmat fee on larger motors.

Chas

Welcome Jonathan and congrats on supporting TRF early on.

By all means join DARS as it's a great supportive group of folks having "rocket" fun. It's a fine mix of oldsters, youngsters and mixed upsters ... lol DARS really works hard to be inclusive and educational when it comes to even young children. Come on out and see for yourself.

Also the Tripoli North Texas "TNT" group is currently reorganizing with a new Prefecture and in the process of acquiring a flying field with potentially higher alt waivers for your future consideration.

Either way Jonathan, if you haven't yet, I would suggest joining DARS and NARS and also look into TRA ... all fine groups.

Wow, great looking paint job! I envy your finishing skills :). Thanks everyone for the plug and yes, let me know if you're looking for anything in particular, we're happy to help.

Thanks! I believe I will then. The local option for motors is a big help too.

Thank you for the welcome, I just recently joined the NAR and will be mailing off my membership for DARS soon.. Aiming to come out to tomorrow's meeting, and bring my son along.

Look forward to meeting a few folks.

That's good news on the TNT group as well, thanks for sharing!

LOL Thanks! I used my airbrush with Createx Blue and Orange Pearlescent paints. It's almost too pretty to be launched!

Looking for an F26-6 at the moment for the Artemis first flight, seen you have them, and THEN I got distracted by all the kits!! :D

How'd the launch go today? That northern wind made the things tolerable at my sons golf match. He won his match so maybe that took the edge off a bit :).

Yes, the north wind and increasing cloud cover towards the end of the day were welcome. Good turn-out, some L1 cert flights, at least one L2 cert flight. General good times !

Wait, I got the impression that not more than medium power rockets were flown at the DARS Gunter site. It says up to "full G" motors on the Gunter launch site webpage, but now I see you guys/girls were running up to K motors out there, yesterday. Is the ceiling still capped at 5k ft?

Gunter originally would allow an occasional M (I recall at least one) and K's were fairly common. Then something happened with adjoining land owners and things got tighter. During that time things became limited to G-ish flights. Then things were re-worked out and high power is now back in play. Waiver is ~5000' but you can do quite a bit with that in my view.

Hmmmm. Perhaps I need to join, after all.

While I wouldn't discourage you from joining the club, membership is not required to fly with us at Gunter. You can try before you buy.

I'll look into it later this year. I need a DFW local to bring a 98in rocket back from LDRS for me, so I'll have an opportunity to get more details on launching with DARS, when we meet to deliver that rocket.

If you need a bit more altitude, you can try Tripoli North Texas - Sanding 7100' with call ins to 9100' - The website is way out of date and way better info is at the Facebook page.

That's awesome news Al ! Congrats to the TNT crew. More flying fields are more gooder. :)

Ok, Saturday August 17th will be hot and a little windy at the ol' cow pasture. Approx 3K AGL to respect our northern neighbors. :)

Who all is going to LDRS?

I'll be there Friday morning through sometime on Monday. I'll be in the vendor area under an obnoxiously bright orange canopy (between Photos by Nadine and LOC I think).

I'm not flying much as I didn't get my L3 project ready in time. Wesley will be along for his first trip to The Rocket Pasture and flying a bunch of low and mid power stuff though.
