There are a lot of things on the list that you don't need approval for; driving, marriage, etc. Probably varies quite a bit by state.

Well, driving on public roads you do. But not to cross the road. Some drugs, but not all. Not education. Strictly speaking, not leave the country; it's entering a country that requires permission. And unless I'm mistaken, you don't need permission to get married, you just need paperwork to gain certain marriage benefits. Also, "collect rain water" proves that the creator is from California. (OK, maybe a few other states or in countries that are not the US, but not most.)

And you don't need permission to post stuff on an internet forum. Or to write a book. Or to kiss your lover. And I could go on and on.
