Preparing (2) new 20', 9/16 nylon harnesses for my Madcow DX3. I'll be using the 15', 1/4" Kevlar in my Darkstar Jr that is nearing completion.

Did density tests on some 54 & 75mm grains I cast this week:

HARA was lucky enough to have the field one more time this season before planting, and we braved the weather to go out and certify some folks!
Between administering L2 tests and pushing the button a couple times, I made an attempt to fly the alphabet, only being foiled by having brought a pack of E16s instead of F15s....

Despite the motor mishap, loss of my 60th Alpha, and the rain breaks that sent us retreating under our tents, it was a good day!
4 L1 certs, 2 L2 certs, and a good end to the flying season

I got to fly my BMS School('d) rocket again for the 3rd of 8 Pro 24 6gr flights, working my way up the thrust scale.
Flew the flip flier for the first time (it has a couple minor perforations due to leaving it in reach of my girlfriend's cats), and my old trusty patriot SAM (now signed by V. Estes) on a Q-jet! Interesting little motor, it goes Phffft!

Detritus of a flying day

Repair work on my Tomahawk after the booster below it CATO’d.
I’ll need to recut the vinyl, but if the local High School can’t help (the original was from there) I’m setting up my Ender 5 to cut.

Completed both in a few hours, both 80 grams under the original estimate, ready for the 4k sports camera on mid-power.

Built eggtimers. Power on test successful and ready for vacuum chamber test (after soldering in the jumper).20190414_105757_HDR.jpeg

Cleanup day at the field cancelled because of rain. Ground tested ejection charges for a Darkstar Jr. Started way low with 1g. Upped it to 1.6 for a second try. I also don't think I had the powder packed tight enough, the main charge just sizzled. IMG_20190414_155938.jpg IMG_20190414_160437.jpg IMG_20190414_153210.jpg
I've used Pratt ejection canisters for my previous flights but decided to try glove fingers.

Did some flat black pigmenting on my XTF- 18. Had a couple spots not masked tight. Couple decals here and there and it will look good at a few hundred feet up in the sky. Love this little bird. One of my favorite designs. Ha, they are all loved the same.

Now I'm attaching new fins on another scratcher I'm repairing. I had originally papered the fins. The paper started to peel off while the rocket was in storage. And it took it hard in the box of other rockets. I never did finish this one anywhoo.

[Frew] my old trusty patriot SAM (now signed by V. Estes) on a Q-jet!
So, signed by Mr. Estes and flown on a quest motor. Doesn't that invoke some ancient curse on you?

Successfully launched my Level 3 Rocket AND recovered it
I also did my part for recruiting to the hobby this week - gave one of my "extra" kits to my wife as a "present" - she built it and cert'd level 1 today.
Congrats to both!

On Saturday I assembled my first reload (Aerotech G53) and flew my ASP WAC Corporal. I was nervous I was going to do it wrong and destroy the casing.

Not today, but Saturday. I actually made it to a local club (MTMA) launch. For the first time in a long time schedule wasn't jammed full, and the club didn't have to cancel because of weather (I think they only had two launches that didn't get rained out last year). It was a beautiful day and I flew several rockets and helped a little guy (Nico) and his dad with some repairs. First time I've gotten rockets into the air in longer than I care to admit.
