I tried something different this time by mounting the 808 camera sideways. The Magician was launched with a D12-5 engine on a 2 payload flight: Estes Altimeter and 808 camera. A previous flight with camera pointing down with less drag was 655 ft. With the camera mounted sideways, it added a lot of wind drag for an altitude of only 403 ft. A difference of 252 ft. This time I stood farther away from the rocket and had better control of the camera.
There was heavy storm clouds with wind and rain approaching. I had to get out of there fast.

Great that you are trying new things!

You can mount the camera higher on the airframe. Still causes some drag, but moving the mass forward helps pull CG forward. May not work as well with lateral projection.
