Estes 1/200 Scale RTF Saturn V

I will probably buy more than one. I would like to modify it to fly with the F-1
engine attached. I'll be the first to make a guess on the price. I say around $25.00.

I'll buy at least a couple as well. One to launch and one to keep on the shelf. I hope they make enough to keep up with demand.
 
I think it should be fairly priced under $20, but it will probably be over $40, and with a coupon, you will get it for around $30.

I actually have no idea...
 
I did get a reply a few months back from Estes twitter that it should be April, so I’ll keep my finger on that f5 key on the coming soon page for the next few weeks
 
I have a good feeling about this rocket. I hope and believe it's going to be a big seller.
ESTES has made a good decision on bringing this 1/200 size Saturn out. Thanks.
 
I’ve got a chance to save some money on a motor purchase. If you were going to buy 18mm Aerotech single-use D10 motors for this rocket, would you get the 3-second delay or the 5-second delay? The recommended Estes motor is the C6-3. I know we don’t have a final weight on this, but what’s your best guess for the optimum delay for a D10?
 
My guess, and it’s strictly that, is this rocket is going to be fairly heavy and draggy so I’d probably go with the shorter delay.

If this rocket is available in the $20-30 range Estes better be ready for a really big hit.
 
My 2 cents - Estes should sell this as a complete RTF kit, including launch controller, pad, and a couple motors. Hopefully they can get it into mass-market stores like Walmart and Target. This would surely push the price near $50, but it would allow a kid and his parent to pick one up on a whim and launch it at the park that same day.

If your chance to save money includes Aerotech/Quest Q-Jet motors, the C12-4 and D16-4 would also be viable choices.

If Estes is recommending a C6-3 then I’d go D10-5. The SU D10s are almost full Ds. Order (or make) some extra initiators. Those D10s are fussy little buggers to get lit between the tiny nozzle and being White Lightning.

Nope.

Intended to sell many thousands and expectation is many will be desktop static display models. If a large percentage are flown, then that is great and people will be able to easily find launch sets and motors with whatever info is packed in the kit and on the kit packaging.

WHY drive the price point up and lose thousands of sale when most of the target customers will not want to launch them?

Probably a safe bet we’ll see a launch set available to go with the stand alone model - this is a natural for a launch set.

Estes has several rockets sold both ways though I wish they’d make the red white blue Flip Flyer that’s in the launch set available separately so I could have one to go with the weird orange green yellow version I already have.
 
I looking forward to this model being released. I have three plans for the ones I buy.
First, it looks like it will make a nice display model. So I would like to come up with a gantry for it.
Second, I would like to modify the model to include the F-1 engine for flights.
Third, I would like to do another modification to use a 1/200 scale 3D printed part(https://www.shapeways.com/product/A...roud-for-saturn-v-one-piece?optionId=21151421) to turn it into a Skylab although this part has jumped up in price over the last week, and fly the model with the F-1 attached.

So to do all this I will need a few extras to use to test the modifications out on. Right now I'm thinking
I will be looking at least five or more, but it depends on the upfront price.

Just my thoughts at this point.

SIgn me up! lol $25 no hassle sounds like a bargain plus i can fly it to a general altitude higher than 350ft and not blow a lot of time / money to make it happen ..
 
Yeah....I see that. So at AC Supply that would be ~$42 at their standard discount rate. I didn't think it was going to be anywhere near $25, but it was nice to dream about that...

I sure don't believe that projected altitude of 1300 feet for a 2 inch diameter 5 ounce model on a C6-3. Maybe 300 feet..... (oops).

I'd buy it at the AC Supply discount price, if that is available. I also think 1,300 feet is in error for sure -- no way. I'm not even sure I believe 300.
 
Looks like it's going to have a clear slip on fin unit as well.
Hopefully that price is for the starter set.
I see no evidence that that is anything but the rocket. Certainly that catalog page just shows a rocket.

Regarding the motor: Estes own specs list 4 oz as max liftoff weight for a C6-3. That rocket is listed as 5 oz. Hmm.....
