Chuck,

If the wheel-wells on your trailer are like those in the photo, see if your welder can fabricate some "covers" to slip over them. That way you could leave the tires on, at launch, if desired.

I think most people take the tires off anyway so if things don’t go as planned you still have your tires for the ride home.

Chuck,

The "WAR WAGON" !

Thanks guys! Yep anything rocket is just downright sexy lol!

I appreciate the support.

That would be one crappy CATO...:D

Regardless, that thought would make it a VERY scary launch...every time.

That was LDRS 22 in Argonia KS...

The porta-john launch could have taken place after my son had Mexican food while we were camping in Lake Placid. He made the campfire flare up. lol

Anyone have any insight to the transportation of motors in regards to the DOT? I think the DOT regs only apply to commercial transport of hazmat.

Our motor is almost 10 ft long and has almost 200 lbs of propellant. Of course the motor won't be loaded but the casing is hard to hide as is a 25 ft long rocket in the trailer rack lol.

Chuck,

Be sure you are wearing your "Pirate Outfit", while you're driving . . .

Tell them it's part of a "carnival ride" . . . LOL !

25 ft long . . . Did it "grow" again ? It was 20 ft before.

Found the hazmat answer:

"Non-commercial transport of non-commercial items are exempt under 1000 lbs interstate."

OK to carry the big motor(s).

Buy a couple sleeping bags and wrap the motor case in the bags . Seran wrap the whole bundle and your case will be fine . We did this with a 6 inch by 114 inch motor .

Without an ex number on your specific propellant, you can be in commerce anyway...but if you make it, you can haul it. You just can't hire someone else to haul it for you.

Good to know. I've been pulled over a few times with rockets on the racks by police who were simply interested.

At these sizes and weights it's best to make sure.

Appreciate the help.

I considered driving to NARAM 60 with my 7' cruise missile strapped to the top of my suburban, but left immediately after work and didn't have time to rig it.

Take a little "cruise" through a major airport with that on your roof . . . You'll meet some "interesting" people . . . LOL !

At Airfest a couple of years back someone rolled in w/ what looked like a 10in or so bird strapped to the top of their minivan. Looked great, I thought.

Anyone here have some feedback on the latest Marsa altimeter... the Marsa33LHD?

https://www.marsasystems.com/index.php

Am giving serious consideration to this altimeter as it looks to be highly reliable.

Would be using two of these in the rockets’ first flight this September.

Appreciate the input.

Chuck,

Looks like a nice unit . . . I have no experience with Marsa . . . Do you know anyone who uses them ?

I like to get "real world" reviews, whenever possible . . . It would be great if you were able to be "hands-on" with one, in advance.

I have used the MARSA54, same unit as MARSA33, just bigger. It is a powerful altimeter. Great for staging & airstarts. Probably an overkill for your project but it will do the job.
