This thread is precisely why no one should ever order a Curtis Turner product that the vendor does not have in stock (IN HAND). You pony up the dough, and eventually you get what you ordered. I'm assuming Ken gets tired of the never ending phone calls, texts, and emails from disappointed customers that incorrectly assumed these kits were in stock. Its the vendors responsibility to be clear indicating this was a pre-order sale, which it was not clear at all.

Hang in there folks, you will get your stuff eventually...
Likely he had some, didn't think he'd sell so many, figured he could order a few to handle the oversale, and then unexpectedly sold a boatload.

The sale stated that there were 25 available, no more, no less. It appears that he did not have any kits as it has been over a month and only a few kits have been shipped. I would not have any issues if all of this was previously stated and didn't have to be deciphered by the rocketry community. A simple post or email would have made the whole situation a lot less confusing. Ken gives out estimated but ultimately he does not have control over the shipping/creation of the kits. I'm still looking forward to receiving my kit but the process could have been a lot less messy.

Ah. Can't argue that!

I have come to realize that the issues between Ken and Curtis are none of my business. I formally apologize to both Ken and Curtis. I reacted without thinking and knowingly offended you both. I apologize for my actions and have taken steps to remove the offensive threads.

Wow, was I surprised!
I received an e-mail from Ken today and went out to get the mail the kit was sitting there waiting for me.
drop shipped from Curtis.

sad very sad
I don't think i'll ever buy from him again! EVER

Well, I tried to call, vm box is full.. sent a text and another email, he has replied pretty good to those. I got a phone call from him about 25 mins after my text. I am ok with the wait....just want to know when it will be or so. Seems like the kit builder (Curtis) is backlogged and had to fill other rocket kit vendors orders as well.

I got my tracking number today via email from Ken. Was picked up from PA earlier today (2/7). I should have my performer 98 by Tuesday.

I received my performer 98 a few days ago. I will be opening it up tomorrow and taking some photos. Can't wait to build it

There should be a sticky in the vendor section titled Who is Curtis Turner ?

For those new to the hobby, Curtis is the manufacturer of most fiberglass parts and kits sold by vendors not named Wildman in the hobby. Curtis operated Performance Rocketry starting in mid 2000s. He supplied Wildman until a few years ago when Wildman went with a different supplier. Curtis also sold through RocketryWarehouse, which was operated by a relative of Curtis. One of the RW operators passed, and things went south, leading to Madcow buying RW. Curtis also supplied ProLine/ GaryT ... something like that. At times when he has taken money and not delivered, Curtis has retreated to the Himalayas.

Do a search and you are likely to find a number of threads like the one below:

Your facts are wrong. Curtis operated Performance Rocketry NOT Performance Hobbies. Ken Allen from Performance Hobbies is solely responsible for putting Curtin in business. If not for Ken Curtis would not be where he is today. Yes, Wildman stopped doing business with him a few years back.

Thanks, typing error on my part. The two are often confused due to similar business names. I've ordered from Ken, and know the difference. Nice guy.

Well finally received my P-98 kit this morning....

Initial impressions are great, looks like a solid kit. It's my largest rocket thus far, going to give it a bath and finalize the build plans.

So I got my performer 98 on Tuesday, but wasn't able to open/look at until earlier this morning. Build quality is really nice. I'm looking to build sometime within the next month or two depending on what else I feel like building. So I was never worried about getting it right after ordering it. Mine will have dual deploy with redundant altimeters, and eggfinder tx in the nose. No idea what motor to stick in it, but I did just get a 75 to 54mm motor adapter. Mine looks the same as Ben's but my nose cone has a removable aluminum tip which is what I like on my fiberglass kits.

Yours has an aluminum tip? Mine is composite, weird.
