A great kit for Dr. Who fans. I’ve seen the kit and it’s very well done. I have a lot of Squirrelworks kits but that’s one of the few I don’t own. I think Squirrelworks kits are one of the best kept secrets in model rockets. Of the dozen or so I have, the wood, laser cutting, decals, and even the instructions are all top notch. The glider kits are really cool as well.

Interested to know more about which ones you've built. Any build threads? I've been interested in some of their kits but have read precious little about them around here. Once I requested if they would send me instructions for one of their kits so I could see how it was built but they were unwilling. I guess they didn't want to provide material for cloners (not what I was intending).

Anyway, the result is that I've hardly ever seen any details about what building a SW kit is like.

They are solid, quality LPR builders kits. You might say a little retro since they use real balsa nose cones, just the way Harry and Vern intended. I might be a little biased since they're local and I've built a few and fly them regularly, especially the Dogfight. Buy one, build one, fly one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Dogfight is a great kit, and you can buy just the gliders separately if needed. I've seen Don (the owner of Squirrel Works) fly it on several occasions and it is a real crowd pleaser:

I've never done a build thread or a kit review. But I can say the latest SW kit I bought, an Arapaho-E (which Don bought the rights to) is, as Sam mentions, a classic builders kit - balsa nose cone, tail cone, strakes, and fins. As an example of Don's attention to detail, the kit includes a balsa spacer to help you make sure the engine block is properly spaced from the end of the motor mount tube. (The motor mount is longer than normal to account for the length of the tail cone.) The solid balsa parts probably increase the cost of the kit but it feels very authentic.

It's very unlikely you'd be disappointed in any of Squirrel Works kits. Don knows the best customer is a repeat customer so he works hard to make sure every kit will keep you coming back.

ps: in full disclosure I have known Don for many years. But I have also have bought and built his kits, so I am speaking from personal experience and not just from hearsay. Don has not given me any kits for free or otherwise induced me to say anything positive. Purely my opinion.
