Yeah I still don’t know what’s up with that. There are lots of designs with dummy scoops like that which fly fine.

In any case, I’m not rushing to build this tomorrow, though it is enticing. I’m not generally too enthusiastic about retro-futuristic designs but I like this one.

I just realized I don't know if this thread is about half-baked designs, or if the thread itself is half-baked.

Maybe it's just the thread *title* that is half-baked, after all. o_O

You could make the dummy scoop into an actual scoop. Kind of like an Augie, but with style. Then you would have some air flow through there which might actually promote stability a little, like a ring fin.

Maybe, although hard to see where it would vent to. In any case, after further thought, I'm very unlikely to build this anytime soon despite the fact that I like it a lot. If anyone wants it... ;)

Hey Neil_W-
I think I found you an Alcubierre sister ship!!

If you can OR it, I'll build it! :) (and that's in writing so I am now accountable.)

5 motor cluster,,,
I'm in!!

Who needs OR just more pictures will do,,,,

Oh didn't see them on my phone, I'd wouldn't use them as motors anyway.
Pods maybe,,,,

Cool... got any more pictures, or link to the video?
Sadly, not yet....It popped up in a random Google Photo search and I can't find it again.

I'll keep searching though and update it if I find it!!!

Clearly, your Google-fu is better than mine. May I ask what you searched to find it? :D

Sure. It was Google's image search.

  1. Right click on the image you posted and copy its address/location (which is "https://alternathistory.com/files/resize/users/user286/frontend-600x337.jpg").

  2. Next go to Google image search (https://www.google.com/imghp)

  3. Click on the camera icon inside the search box

  4. In this case we have the image URL that we copied earlier, so we past that in the Search by URL option. Then click on the Search by Image

  5. It took a few seconds but the search page came up and in this case only a few options were displayed. Since this is obviously not a movie about Robin Hood we tried clicking on the Russian web page link. As soon as it came up we knew we had hit pay dirt. We then used Google Translate to get an idea of what the page was about. It was there that we also found the link to the YouTube video.
Sometimes Google Image Search does well, other times you really wonder exactly what it is searching for. In this case we got lucky.

Hope that helps!

Definitely,
I just couldnt find the source URL. I only was able to retrieve this webpage...and still do. :) Ah well...
you got us one step closer to my bluff being called by Neil :D

Here's my first crack. Sorry for the awful pictures, I am having some "issues" here.

It needs a lot of fine tuning, but I think I got the essence somewhat at least. What do you think?

Definitely taking shape. I'm liking the direction. :)
I'm a bit puzzled what to do with the body tube. The original from the video really doesn't have anything like a BT or traditional nose cone. Not sure how to capture it without a laying a bunch of composites down.

Of course, the standard way to deal with such things would be to take the original as inspiration and come up with something buildable. I'm not convinced I'm there yet with this one. Also, it is *so tedious* to try to model this thing in OR that it's probably not even worth the trouble....

Start with a bt then lay up a paper body reinforceed with balsa kind of like the SR-71
