I blew the fin off a Estes Ascender with a G125 motor. Thinking of trying an F25 and a F42 on a Mammoth. What is the biggest motor you have flown on a stock Estes E2X???

You need to put tape over the seam in the fins To prevent them from splitting open during flight.

Have flown the i-205 in the ascender and mammoth. No problem.

G-79 in a Majestic. Used epoxy for most of the build. Also, not fully stock, I used a 18 foot piece of Paracord with a 36 inch Kevlar sleeve in place of the stock elastic shock cord. This was tied to the plastic part of the motor mount. It flew to just over 3000 ft.

I've done a G80-10T in a Mammoth... and it survived, BSI maxicure and a completely stock build. I did see someone else try this the launch before me and shred theirs so YMMV. G40 in a Trajector... no issues.

+1 on the tape, although you can get away without it with the Trajector because the fin-tip pods hold the fins together. I shredded the fins on a Nike Smoke with an H133 before I caught onto the tape trick. I think you're a little brave with an I205, I would expect the fins to start flexing and break at the root.

The Aerotech F67 and the Mammoth are a great combo! On the other end of the E2X spectrum, we put an Aerotech D10 in my daughter's 4FNC E2X (I think it was called AGM--18 mm motor mount with an alien decal). Never saw it again.

Shredded a fin on a majestic this weekend at Bama Blastoff with a g77 R that one has glued fins from the factory definitely recommend tape on the leading edge of that one, my ascender and trajectory flew all day long in f67 and g77 R no problem, use a chute release... last flight of the day i let my ascender go at apogee about 2600 feet, and walked 2 and half miles for recovery beautiful flight though

I have a newfound respect for the PsII e2x line, really flew em like I stole out there at Bama Blastoff, my trajectory flew 6 times with 5 failed chute inflation’s and walked away with only a fin popped off which I glued back on with 5 minute Epoxy and sent it up 2x more in g77s... the ones with the glue together fins are strong the majestic shredded a fin on a g77, probably needed a touch of tape on the leading edge...

Good demo rockets and the kids and grownup spectators really crowded around the Trajector guess it’s the buck Rogers fin pods and nose cone

Ask the guys that were at the OROC NXRS launch back in June... They had a "Shredstes" competition to see who could get an Estes PSII kit the highest in two categories: Stock build with no modifications, and modified. From what I hear, it was quite the show!

While I haven't flown any of my E2X PSII kits yet, I have flown my PSII Nike on a H115, and taped the fins after they split following four flights on G76s.

My Argent is stock with small epoxy fillets. Did my L1 with an H115DM, then flew 500ml of water in the forward section with an H195NT. It handled it just fine.

The ascner is a pretty good kit, the payload bay is cavernous, for 2'' and I've seen some cool mods, one dude at bama blastoff had his setup for dual deployment.

I flew mine with a G146 (160 ns) of my own design, trying to shred it after the stock recommended estes motor (F15) couldn't lift it. It did not shred, going to try an H-motor next time...

I've heard several reports of H motors in these working out. Guess it just depends on whether you have a good glue surface and epoxy mix on just how far you can push it. Although who knows my trajector was built with 5 minute Loctite instant mix, and flew mulitple times on g77Rs...

They're a lot of fun for sure, and with the 40% off HL coupon or from AC Supply co not a bad bit of fun for 26 dollars or so.

Also i do recommend zip tying the nose cone down at least if you're flying an ascender with the payload bay. There's a nose cone and an altimeter 2 somewhere between Alabama and Mississippi after Saturday.

You just need to use a good glue for styrene on the fins to the motor mount rings, solvent type the best. epoxy does not stick well to plastic even when well abraded. CA does work but you have to be quick!

I was wondering about that, have some plastiweld i was using for warhammer 40k miniatures and vehicles and wondered how that would work on those fins, I have another majestic on the build pile I might give it a shot on

I have had excellent luck with Tenax 7r although the one I had built was glued together with bob smith cyanoacrylate. with accelerant.

PSIIs are good rockets. I did all my electronics training in them preparing for L2 (the fleet build is on the MPR forum somewhere)
Planning to fly them all next HARA launch on the 10th. F51 in the Argent, G33 in the Mammoth, H53 in the Leviathan, H123 in the Ventris, and H133 in the Partizon

What I really like about them is they can teach material limits and deployment. A fiberglass 2.6" will land, core sample, or bounce, but a light cardboard rocket will be borked if you mess up the recovery deployment. Helped me learn to fly carefully.

I'm sorry the what?

The one BIG problem with the E2X kits...You can't get parts, tube nose cones or anything. eRockets does have a 2" tube that almost fits over the E2X tube, you have to carefully peel off the outer layer of the Estes tube then it is a snug fit, glue with epoxy as any wood glue will sieze before you get it put together. eRockets has one nose for that tube, looks like a Big Bertha type nose. Or you have to make one yourself. I liked the E2X nose but the earth destroyed it when the recommended motor pranged it into the ground before ejection...ooooops Hey Estes: we need an F coreburner black powder motor...

Ascender... sometimes my brain runs at a different clock speed than my thumbs

I’ve been noticing that myself as I’m trying to replace a nose cone I lost somewhere in a 3 mile Radius cornfield from my ascender, Estes does sell the direct replacement tubes and a single 2 inch ogive nose but the shipping is more than the parts, so I guess I’ll wait until they bring back the free shipping on orders over 29.99 deal again
