I'm looking for a small sonic beacon to use at our launch site where the grass and brush is starting to get pretty tall. On larger rockets, we've been using those personal alarms, but I'm looking for something for LPR that is very light and will go in a BT50 (about 0.9 inches max diameter). Some time ago, I saw one online that was "thumb sized" but can't seem to find it anymore. I'm even open to building one. Suggestions appreciated.

Very loud, if you remember to run some tape around the battery holder to make sure the battery doesn't pop out at ejection. Not the least bit loud if the battery pops out.

I've used the microbeacon, too. Sometimes it's louder than others, for reasons I haven't figured out. ++1 on taping the battery in. I also picked up a toy directional microphone (cheap amazon parabolic mic and earphones) to go with it, but moved to eggfinders before putting it to the Bong High Weed Test.

I've had good luck with the following:

The smallest one (SB1) should have no problem fitting into BT50.
Beware of the added weight, as they may effect the stability of the smaller low-power rockets.

I knew you guys would have an answer.

I've looked over the web pages for both of those and it appears the Adept SB1 and the Pratt Microbeacon will work just fine. Thank you. And they will even fit in a BT-20 sized tube!

One of the things I like about the Adept is that it has a pull cord to activate the beep.... much like some of the personal alarms we use in bigger rockets. Do any of you know if the Pratt unit has the same capability? Couldn't tell from the description on his web site.

I may try one of each. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the info. I ordered one of the MicroBeacon's this morning. Next week, when I have a little more free time, I think I'll also order one of Adept's smallest beacons.
