I used a D16 at NARAM-60. Very nice. Smooth fit. Flew absurdly high in an Estes Make-It Take-It.

From the Quest website:

NOTICE: WE NOW ANTICIPATE THE Q-JET C12 AND D16 PREORDERS TO BEGIN SHIPPING SHORTLY AFTER LABOR DAY WEEKEND. IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO 2 WEEKS TO FILL ALL THE PREORDERS ONCE SHIPPING BEGINS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

Usually RCS/Quest sends out a shipping notice when it goes out. Haven't received a notice for my pre-order yet.

Looking forward to these motors. Any one heard about E's or F's?
No.

Quest and Aerotech are merged. Quest has 18mm Q-jets.

Aerotech has E's and F's in 24 and 29mm (Single use and RMS).

Now, a good question would be: I wonder if they will ever make any 24mm E and F Q-jet motors in the future (assuming they can sell enough of the 18mm Q-Jets to make a profit).

Not sure if the ceramic nozzle would scale up to 24mm and Aerotech already has some great single use 24mm motors (E20, F44, F32, etc.)

Don't know if you've noticed, but the packaging for the C & D Q-jets says nothing about Quest, and only has Aerotech. Don't know if the smaller motors' packaging has changed.

That was interesting. Probably because of the propellant regulatory paperwork being owned by RCS/Aerotech and not the Quest entity. So Quest may make the kits but Aerotech makes the composite motors.

I've got a feeling it is more marketing driven, but Gary wouldn't give me any more hints about it.

Interesting observation ;).

Maybe Dane knows.....

The maxim is that you need to have same-branded motors to get your products into some retail channels. i.e why some hobby stores wouldn't carry Custom or other lines. This flies slightly against that, though the Q-glyph in Q-Jets is the same as the one in the Quest logo, so maybe that's good enough for the connection?

Update: Just received a shipping notice from RCS like, two minutes ago. So all my draggy, underpowered 18mm birds might have a new life. Woohoo!

Got my shipping notice email at 12:32 last night!!! Now it’s time to buckle down and finish my bt-20 alien interceptor

I also received a shipping notice about my Q-Jet order on Friday.

I flew a C12 and a D16 in Quest Kwik-Kit rockets at NARAM-60. All I can say is "WOW!"

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop in and provide you all an update on the Q-Jets. All Q-jet orders have been shipped out as of today so if you have not received them yet they should be there sometime this week and/or into next week. With USPS you just never know sometimes, that is one downside to shipping Parcel Post. Their tracking service leaves something to be desired as well, we usually only see the initial scan and the final scan when it is delivered.

Someone posted that they received their Cs and there was a note that the Ds would ship shortly thereafter. That explains the notice I got today. A second shipping notice on my order. So I guess it's coming in two packages.

I received my C12/D16 packs a few days ago (I preordered the first day). First flights today!

First flights today!

How'd it go?

I'm not sure I'm going to be buying any more QJets after some customer service issues but I got some C's and D's in as well as some old stock B's I already had (sigh, these are the ones that don't fit) and it would be good to get some sense of how they're actually performing if we ever get a local launch that isn't cancelled (double sigh).

I flew an old, all-plastic 18mm X-Wing on both a C12-4 and D16-4 last weekend, they got the model up to a stable speed quickly. This is one of those models that called out the C5-3 as the only recommended motor. They're both very good motors for this bird. Flew an E2X Estes Spirit (plastic fin can) on a D16-6, and it flew straight and high - no issues with the motor heating up the fin can too much. The D16 has only marginally more impluse than the C12, so the flyer experience wasn't much different. They light *very* quick with the supplied starters. The little red tube used to hold the starter is a little tricky to use, and easy to lose, but small twigs work well when that happens.

I'm waiting for these to be cleared in Canada. Very interested to see how they work in a couple of my 18mm rockets.

So I got a chance to try a D16 in a Big Bertha today and you know, it really was pretty cool. The igniters are a little fragile and it took me a couple of tries to figure out what the heck I was supposed to do with the little red thing but I got it to work eventually and now I know the trick (get the igniter all the way up without pushing it too hard, then jam the red thing in alongside to keep it up). I can definitely see keeping a little stash of these for traditional 18mm rockets that feel a little underpowered on a C6.

Flew a C12-6 and a D16-8 in a Nova Payloader today. The C12 was especially satisfying as it took the model a goodly bit higher than I get with an Estes C6-5 (925 feet on the C12 vs. 700+/-50 feet on Estes C6s). The D16 didn't take it much higher (another 120 feet) but man did that sucker get up and go! The AltimeterThree reported a peak speed on the D of 280 mph!

I will be wanting more of these.

Putting one in a Big Bertha (maybe D16-6) would likely be quite fun. Not as much fun as an Aerotech D10-7, but quite a bit of fun.

Yeah, I used a D16-6. It's definitely not a "full" D but it's so zippy you don't really care.

Zippy indeed. Today's D16 flight was the fastest I've ever seen a Nova Payloader get up and go - and I've flown them on probably 125 flights including some with Aerotech D10s.

That said the AltimeterThree aboard reported higher peak acceleration - 22Gs - on the C12 flight. The acceleration graph showed a more sharply progressive burn on the C12 vs. the D16.

A D16 might be just the perfect motor for a BB (or a Citation Patriot) on my club field....without needing to also carry a Chute Release at least.
