So I decided that I should at least try the putty to fill in the cracks. Big mistake. Even applying micro-amounts with a toothpick, I couldn't control where it went, and as I had feared I have now enlarged the paint repair area, probably without having fixed what I was trying to fix. Once I saw what was happening I stopped immediately. Tomorrow I'll brush paint the area again and call it finished, regardless of what it looks like.
I have so many stories of regret from going back to "fix" what was already fixed. I can totally relate. Each time I eventually did the same as you can called it done lol.
