Ahh, summer days.. Days spent in waders, and up to your hips in a stream.. or on a boat, in a patch-o-weeds...

Orvis in hand, watching your back-cast..
or
Ugly stick in hand, and the bail open, line zinging out to that hole..

Bucket-mouths, Stripers, Ole' goggle eyes, Brookies, Browns, 'Bows..

Know what I'm talkin' about?!!

D'you fish?

Well, yeah! Went ice-fishing a few times, and that's dedication, isn't it? But babbling brook with a fly-rod is my favorite.

I used to like fishing. Sitting on the dock in the sunshine with a cool breeze coming across the water ......

What I didn't like was catching fish. Ick. :-0

Used to...all the time, that was prior being stuck in this silly wheelchair. Loved being out early in the morning when the water on the lake or pond was still and looked like glass. That always made for great top water fishing for Large Mouth Bass!:)

never been fishing in my life - except maybe for the five neon tetras that i "caught" at the tropical fish shop today for my tank.:D

I love fishing! I once caught 32 sunnies in the span of two hours at a lake in NY, but they were probably the same stupid fish over and over again. I've only been deep sea fishing once, in Florida, but I was the only person on the boat to catch anything (just two lousy triggerfish...) I did win the township fishing competition a few years back with an 8in long bass, but that's pretty much the highlight of what I've done.

I consider it an exercise in frustration, whereas it's the only kind my wife likes!

I'd rather use casting than spinning. Backlash sucks, though....

Haven't gone for a few years.

There was one year where I put nearly as many miles on my canoe as I did on my truck... :)

Fish mainly for bass. Trout when I can get up north. Northern pike and pickerel when I can. I love going surf fishing for striped bass at Plumb Island.

My all time favorite though was fishing for red salmon and king salmon in the Keani river in Soldotna, Alaska mmmmm

Don't I look like I FIT in Alaska???

Wow! Ya sure do Jim! LOL!!
That's a nice fish as well!
I'd love to get up there samon fishing some time. Always seem to have "other things" get in the way instead.

If you ever make it down to Panama City, FL. you gotta go spanish mackeral fishing from the pier! No special gear needed, a Zebco 33 does a great job.

Well, there's an advantage to having family up there, that's for sure. Plus my sister and her commercial fisherman husband own a house right on the Kenai so I get to fish it all I want just for the price of gas in the boat :)

Interesting facts (well *I* think they're interesting):

- Alaska is almost 3 times the size of Texas
- Years ago the Alaska State Senator threated to split Alaska in half and make Texas the THIRD largest state...
- Alaska has 1/2 the population of New Hampshire and half of *that* lives in Anchorage
- Including the Aleutian islands, if laid across the lower 48 states, Alaska would stretch from NY city to LA...

BIG place :)

Well, yes, I used to fish quite a bit.

Growing up outside of San Francisco we had a boat and would often go out into the bay and ocean. It was fun to fish off of Alcatraz, underneath the Golden Gate, out in open water etc.

So for ocean fishing I've got striped bass, sharks (less than 10'), rock cod, etc.

Also, as Jim mentioned about Alaska, I fished there considerably. We had a 17' canoe and hundreds of lakes surround us in Alaska. 500 yards from our home was a sizable lake where we'd catch, missplaced, pike, native trout, or landlocked salmon.

Anchorage also has Ship Creek that runs through it for all four or five salmon types - just a couple miles from home there.

At Kenai & Soldatna we'd catch salmon and monster-trout. Meaning, I would always think they were Salmon because of the fight, but I'd end up with rainbow trout greater than 5lbs and 30" in length.

However, my ultime experience is to be on a small lake early in the morning, with fog hovering just over the water. Loons nearby, a beaver playing under our canoe, and a cow/calf moose on the other side eating. Which actually happened on more than one occasion. Those were experiences and memories I cherish. So I haven't fished since leaving Alaska.

Spend as much time doing it as I do building rockets:). All I ever get to catch though are rainbows brookies, browns, and cutthroat. Never even seen a pike(but they say they're around here), OH!! And the gosh dang carp! Caught a few of those evil monster shinglemeisters:mad:

OH Man! speaking of CARP!
That reminds me, I recently found on of the BEST recipes for Carp ever:

* Fillet and Cube the fish into approx. 1"x1" squares.
*Spread fish squares out on new 1" x 12" x 20" pine board, (Yellow pine seems to work best).
* Place in 450° oven for 5hours.
*Remove, scrap fish in trashcan and eat the board.
:D:D:D

They don't call em Bugle Mouth Trout for nothing! Ah haha ha!

When I was just a wee lad on vacation with my family we met an old African American man at the bottom of one of the TVA dams who swore that carp is delicious if only you now how to clean it properly and remove the "mud vein." He was cheerfully fishing (snagging) for some of those monsters that live in the shallows at the bottom of the dam.

I never did learn the "secret.":)

The best (one of the best) is that lazy afternoon drifting in the boat. You & your buddy are full from lunch, and are getting a little dozey. Sure enough, your buddy has drifted off 9rod barely in hand), and you are almost there..

All of a sudden, there's a bite, and a good tug. You jerk & jump to attention, while keeping a tight line. You're head is a little foggy, but you're focused.. reel reel reel...

You buddy then also abruptly awakes and thrashes about, quickly realising where he / you both are...

You then look at each other, and don't mention it ever again..

You land said fish..

:D:D

I love fishing. It used to be my big hobby, but then I didn't do it that much for a few years. Then came last year...that's when I fished 3-7 nights a week. My mom didn't like how we were always at the lake(which is 5min away). We used to only catch bluegill and other small fish. Then we decided to try the old sink some bait without a bobber trick. After finding the hot spots at the local lake we were bringing in nice catfish and carp while others just looked at us and wondered how we did it. I plan on going fishing a lot again this year.
Here is my second largest catch ever(from last year) It's a 30in Channel cat caught on hotdog :)

Used to fish a lot.

9lb 9oz Florida Largemouth caught in a private lake close to the house. I actually caught the fish twice.

18" Rainbow trout caught in the Guadulupe River in New Braunfels Texas, one summer.

Red Snapper, King Fish and Dorado offshore in the Gulf of Mexico (12 miles from home).

64 White Bass in one morning, whew!!

Red Fish, Speckled Trout, and flounder fishing the bays.

I really enjoyed it.

In high school a buddy and myself worked on a shrimp boat during the summer. We used to catch Ling on hand lines off the side of the boat.

My dad, who lives in Panama City, is itching for me to find a place here in Jacksonville where we could rent a small boat and go drown some worms. He's fished all his life as often as he could. He wants to go find some brim, bluegill, bass. I don't fish all that well, and I have no idea about where to find such a boat.

Go to any bait shop and ask. They will be glad to help.

I used to fish as when I lived on Kauai--just about everyone did--I recall that the word spread like wildfire when the mullet were running--folks would take off from work to fish! I think the last fish I caught was a bass in an irrigation ditch that was within easy walking distance of home.

That is a big Bass, impressive! Biggest Bass I have reeled in was just over 6lbs, and I thought it was big!

My favorite fish story though:

I was fishing from the shore of a small farm pond not far from where I live, and I noticed a snake slithering across the pond. It had a fairly large head and was headed in my direction, I really could not tell what kind of snake it was. It did not make it all the way across, it was pulled under by what I believe was a Big Bass. The bass had to come up twice to get it down, then the water was perfectly still again.....I guess the bass had a good meal.

Does it count if you don't put any bait on the Hook?? Zebco 33 on an ugly stick sittin on the riverbank 20 feet from my house. Or my Shimano on my uncles hand made stick casting a few crank baits water up to my armpits. God I do miss Fishin.

Lake George in the Ocala Nat'l Forrest. Casting into the reeds with large shiners (small fish, live bait). On the second cast I landed a 6 3/4 pound largemouth. Haven't caught much of anything since. That may have been 1990-1991.

They used to keep track of the Top Ten each year. Mine was Number 9 at the end of the year. I always practiced catch and release for anything over four lbs. I broke my own rule and had this fish mounted. The biggest that year was around 12 lbs.

Go to Rollers bait shop just west of Panama City Beach, get a bucket o' shiners, and head to Jamaica Lakes housing addition. Real fun time!:D
