Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there's not a lot of build activity going on in the LPR and Scratch built forums lately. There's usually a bunch of Estes kit builds going on, at minimum, particularly of the new ones. I don't think I've seen a single build of the new Red Nova, which looks like a nice kit. Can't remember the last Fliskits build I saw, other than the occasional ACME Spitfire.

The HPR forum still seems pretty lively, but for those who prefer to build smaller it's been fairly slim pickin's lately. I hope it's not indicative of a downtrend in the hobby.

Etc. etc., blah blah, grump grump, get off of my lawn.

I bet it's the picture issues... I have a bunch of work done on my "Neil-scale" rocket, as somebody called it, but I haven't posted it yet... Mostly just procrastinating, but the fact that my Firefox is slow and my Chrome & phone don't post images certainly doesn't help.

Yep, pictures continue to be broken. The first year I pay and then the whole forum falls apart.

I just had pics working yesterday. Are they broke again?

I'm sure the rate of activity in the forum could be affected by a lot of us doing holiday projects. I know I have. Let's see if the pics are still broke. I made these bows today.

You realize of course now that you’ve pointed this out, you’ll need to build ALL the LPR rockets and document them here to keep the activity going…

There’s a lot of LPR activity in the Facebook NAR group. I haven’t seen many build threads, but there’s a lot of pics of finished rockets and videos of launches. Even when the TRF photo upload is working, it’s easier to post pics and videos to Facebook.
 
When I went to two HPR launches as part of SEDS team for L-1 multistage rocket design at University Tennessee Chattanooga (a new HPR team and SEDS chapter), we saw the local highschools at the HPR launch sites out of state duking it out in MPR TARC and doing science projects... Cluster designs. Multi chute designs. Egg payloads. LPR and MPR builds. Young kids even with elementary teachers trying to give the kids a lab to do. Even the RSO's brought out a bucket of LPRs and used those as wind-socks for the 30mph winds aloft launch crosswinds at VAST when it was blowing a good 15mph on ground. And yes there were some scale snobs old geezer types with MPR birds very pretty with much attention to detail. But my guess is 99% of those people in the hobby will never post at TRF or online. You meet them at TRA launch sites or NAR launch sites.

Maybe I'll even buy a Estes Conquest for $10.... And try the darn thing.

That sounds like a good bit of fun. :) I dare say if the forums are quiet it's not for lack of my trying (although I don't have a build in progress at the moment)...

It's distinctly possible that FB is slowly but surely subsuming all this activity. If so, that's a bummer, because I prefer to stay the heck away from there.

My opinion thrown in for no good reason. It is hard to "LPR is dead" when most of the LPR flights come from people who will never post here, on FB rocket groups, or may ever fly more than a few. LPR will be in trouble when THAT group dries up. And if it does, HPR will eventually feel the loss of that gateway drug!
 
It has *always* been true (and always will be) that most flyers don't post here. But that doesn't explain a slowdown in LPR-related activity on this forum, if indeed that is happening.

In any case, I certainly do not believe (nor did I imply) that LPR is "dead".

I agree all around, although I hadn't noticed a downtick in the LPR side. Could just be part of the ebb and flow. The photo theory has some merit. There are lots of things I do for fun, but when they become difficult, that fun disappears.

Where the heck is my Super Big Bertha? THERE, whining and hijacking!
 
Well should I get the kids next door some Estes kits and watch their moms absolute sh*tface panic when they light off a D or E motor next to $700,000 houses with no firehydrants? I gave a kid a bb gun once as a friend... His parents absolute hated me ever since. These neighbor young kids barely got into fireworks this year. These people on Signal Mountain, TN are like way liberal weirdos who shelter their kids a lot... Now atleast they put TRUMP signs out and wave a flag every now and then. Sheesh... It's like no one's taught them to go outside and have fun or something odd. And they play angry birds on a phone for hours upon hours or something.

When I was a young kid I remember flying a few C motors in about three or four Estes kits. Those old highschool soccer or baseball fields worked great as launch sites. Some things never change going to HPR as landing in trees is still same feeling as in LPR. Some places you can't even go to a park and do LPR due to everyone wanting to sue everything... You know those cheap $20 kits you buy, epoxy or slip fins onto, and screw a retainer in after tie a chute. Never even posted anything about 16 years ago or knew TRF existed. Never knew afterwards, I'd design a multistage rocket a college for HPR SEDS competition event then place third nationally. Walmart still sells those Estes kits. And I don't think the users post.

The sad thing is in certain cities without a TRA/NAR launchsite the hobby stores just gut their rocketry inventory down to very few LPR kits. The hobbytown USA in Chattanooga had gutted all of its MPR gear in spring, when I inquired about ignitors and possibly a casing to use for a SEDS HPR project. Apogee, Wildman, Madcow, and TRF had more info than anywhere else seriously. At the actual TRA/NAR launch sites, LPR isn't dead by any means. But maybe the OP is right about public awareness is lower.
 
Out in Utah they had a hobbytown that had about 10 isles of LPR/MPR rocket kits near UROC. In some cities you'll find nearly none or maybe half an isle. Hobby Lobby usually keeps a good stock when other chains fail to care about LPR/MPR.
 
Haven't had time to build much or fly much lately. But I am putting finishing touches on this BT50 downscale of the Vagabond.

I wouldn't know since I switched to using Imgur years ago. The photo attachment feature has never been very good in vBulletin.

I am curious about something though. Do you guys get the "FROM COMPUTER" option first when selecting a file? THEN...if you posting multiple files, The "URL" option comes up 2nd, 3rd, 4th time and so on. Seems to me, it should ought to stay in 1 mode for every posting. I have to keep switching back for all other photos.

I tried to do my part with 3 builds. See https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?142522-199-200-201-3-way-rocket-build. Although none were Estes or Fliskits.

I think a lot of info is going into the "What did you do today" thread - just not a continuous build thread
 
With everything I've had going on this half of the year, my activity has been almost zero since August. I've built only one rocket since then, which for me, gives me withdrawal...

I actually just started tinkering in OR with a Falcon Heavy model. Once I get the build plan nearly nailed down, then I'll start a thread. :cool:

I'm thinking 3x 24mm cluster with separating boosters like Apogee does them. But more on that later.

I'm part cause of that because my health is a mess which really limits how much I can do and I'm focusing on trains at the moment as well as a sci-fi story which gets tinkered with on and off every now and again over the last couple decades.
