Remember, he is in jail for armed robbery, not for murder. If he was a model prisoner, he's getting paroled.

Regarding the murder, I think he did it. I also think the jury returned the right verdict of not guilty, because the prosecution was unable to prove that he did it. The American system is designed around the idea that it is better to let the guilty go free than to let the innocent be punished. If only it actually worked that way....

I remember when that happened, back in the 90's. It was big news over here as well. I even made $50 out of it. Early in the morning a local radio station wanted to give one of our freshly released plastic $50 notes to the first person to turn up to the station with a white four-wheel drive and an axe. Managed to get the $50 (after getting asked why I drive around with an axe in the car :)) and about ten minutes on air. It was a good start to the day. Still got that $50!

June 17, '94 - the slow speed chase. Seems like today is full of trips back through old memories. I was at a Rangers game at the new Ballpark in Arlington. It was basketball playoffs so they had TVs at the concession stands tuned to the game until the chase came on. I think more people were watching the chase than were in the seats watching the game (Rangers were losing).

My brother was living in Arlington and working in Dallas. He bought a small portable TV (Sony Watchman?) to watch the trial during his commute and sneaking peeks at work.

I agree with everything you said. I still say wow, just because the whole OJ thing is just so freakin' bizarre even after all these years.

It is what it is. The Prosecution in the big trial got outclassed and outmaneuvered. At least he lost the civil suit and then messed up with this armed robbery thing. 33 years is actually very lengthy for armed robbery with no one hurt. The only reason he was in for 9 was that he gambled and lost with a jury trial. He could've taken the plea and got 2.5 years.

If it's any consolation, while he hasn't been doing hard time, he's not been what I would think of as "free" since the Bronco chase 23 years ago. That may be about to change, and I wouldn't be surprised if he bounced back to be like any number of these B-C list celebrities who have a legal cloud over them. Most everyone under 30 doesn't even know anything about him except that he's a big "trending" thing now, and that's all it might take to put him back in the pop culture scene.

He still owes millions on the civil lawsuit for the two deaths.
