The Central Massachusetts Spacemodeling Society (CMASS) has a joint launch scheduled for 11 June with the Rhode Island Model Rocket Association (RIMRA) at their field in West Kingston, RI. Check the RIMRA website for directions. Set up will start at 9 AM and we'll fly well into the afternoon.

Flights are limited to 1500-feet maximum with the possibility of going to 3000-feet if the T. F. Green airport tower allows it. We can launch HPR but please select your rocket and motor combinations to stay below the 1500-foot limit. This applies to low-and mid-power rockets, too.

The plan is to use the CMASS ring of 11 pads and launch controller for low- and mid-power flights and the RIMRA HPR set up including their wireless launch controller. If you are planning on flying HPR, please be sure to bring your current NAR or TRA membership card showing your certification level.

*** Fliskits may not be at this launch. Stay tuned. *** Jim Flis will be there with his fine line of products. If you need any specific kits or components from Jim, contact him ahead of time and he'll be happy to bring it to the field. Jim may also be flying some more RSO approved prototypes and, good or bad, that's always fun to watch.

Jason will be covering your needs from the bountiful storehouse of AMWProX. Again, if you are looking for something specific, contact Robert, Gloria or Jason ahead of time so it will be sure to be at the field. Jason will also check your 38 mm CTI reloads to ensure you don't have a defective delay grain. Even if you're not going to fly them at this launch, bring them in to have them checked if they haven't been already.

The NAR directive is still in place from last year, so if you are planning to fly a CTI V-Max motor at this joint launch, please see the restriction described in this thread. If your active recovery system relies solely on the motor ejection, you won't be allowed to use a V-Max motor to fly the bird.

CMASS has set up a fund in the memory of Bill Spadafora. The monies donated to this fund will be used for outreach to younger flyers for such activities as starting up a TARC team (NAR sections cannot sponsor TARC teams but providing them some start-up capital is allowed - motors and altimeters aren't cheap). To help raise money for this fund, the club has had range box stickers made that have the CMASS logo and a picture of Bill taking a rocket out to the pad. We'll have these stickers available at the launch and suggest a $5 donation to the fund in return for a sticker. Bill is sorely missed by his friends and family as well as by the model rocket community; with this fund, we hope to continue sparking the enthusiasm for this hobby that was second nature to Bill.

Let us know what you'll be flying. Hope to see lots of you there.

URI has leased part of our usual launch site to a farmer who has recently planted the field. We will need to be careful to keep traffic off that portion of the field. Please use the north entrance near the Peckham Farm buildings and park along the drive running North and South.

Thanks for the heads-up. I hope the roadway in from the farm is let chuckholed (new word) than it was the first time I drove it; I don't want to replace the radiator bracket in my car again.

The CMASS trailer is hitched to the truck, and the batteries are charging. If there are any potholes, I hope to be following Kenn to the field so that he can fill in at least one of them to make the ride a little smoother

I'm at the field right now. The hay is mowed and it looks great. The drive is "better" than it was. You don't need an F250 to get out here, but I'd be a little nervous if I was driving a Yaris.

On the way home we were the first car of a 9-car pile-up on I-95. (Not my fault, and everyone is ok.) The crash crushed the trunk containing my rockets on the rear luggage rack, and I literally ran into traffic collecting rocket parts and tools.

So here's proof that an unpainted rocket is bulletproof, but a good looking finish guarantees that it will get damaged.
