So I convinced my wife to make the 2 hour drive from her parents house in Indiana to come out to the launch (for a little bit). Who will be there and flying?
 
I'll be there as well.
Maybe fly Sather's Reptar on a K-something and a chute release.
Sounds fun!
 
I'll be there. Flying either a Punisher4 or a Demon4

Hope to see you all there. Weather has been great here lately. Hope it stays through the weekend.
 
Looks to be a bit windy, but at least temps will be good.
 
Im really hoping the wind will die down still a couple days away so here's hoping.
If not might have to fight the GO Fever and delay my L2 until Mini-Midwest.

or just put a faster motor into it and punch it hard :) L2 on K1440.
 
Well it's a brand new rocket, new gps, new altimeter, new everything really. I've never done dual deploy. Never used a tracker. You can only do so many ground tests but for its first flight I'm gonna keep it a little lower. The K1440 simulated to over 11k lol

What better way to test out a brand new rocket, tracker, altimeter and, well, everything, than by flying it to over 11k!? I'm joking, go fever does suck, but you have to be confident and ready for the flight. Good luck on the L2 cert flight!

So which motor are you flying on? Going DD or motor eject?

Going with a J381 DD, haven't convinced myself either way on motor backup or not to. Using rrc3 for main, and main backup "aux main+2" sims at around 4K.

If you haven't done DD before, please use the motor eject backup, assuming the delay isn't too short. It'll save you from a lawndart if your electronics go kafloopy.
 
Plan on being there and bringing some scratch built stuff, but with a 2+ hour drive, I am closely watching those wind speeds.
 
I'm in the same boat but from almost 4 hours away. Been checking weather.com and weather.gov to get the latest on the wind: SSW at 15-19MPH is their consensus.
 
I'm only flying two G motors (one G64W on my vindicator sport, one EX G132 alumaflame on my interceptor). My wife is doing her L2 shakedown flight on her 4" v2 on an I303BS. Not sure we want to go too high with the winds and all that.
 
Nevermind... tweaked my knee, so I guess I am staying put this weekend. Hopefully I will make it out for mini-MWP.

Kurt- the non-mwp launches fly off of the "path" that leads up to the barn. So only recovery would be in the wet fields, not the launch itself.

forecast is mostly clear skies, with winds 13-18mph.
 
Can't make it. Have too much paperwork to do and am too tired right now to prep some rockets. If I had the time, I'd bring out some of my EggFinder and APRS receive stations and let folks try 'em out.
If I catch wind of upcoming launches, am happy to put an APRS object out there like in the above link. Kurt
 
Lipo's charged, new 9v's installed, packed and ready to go. Only thing to do now is pray to the rocket gods for some decent weather. I will have my laptop with me to sim out different option in case of wind. That or just wait until Mini Midwest for its maiden voyage, wouldn't mind getting someone to give the ol bird the once over see if I forgot something or if I made a mistake.

I can tell you two mistakes you've made already. The motor is supposed to be in the rocket, and the rocket is supposed to be pointing upwards :)

I can take a look at it- no guarantees I won't break it further. Look for the blue honda cr-v with the rocket sticker on the back. My wife will be the lady flying the r-rated red/black v2 :)

Look at the right. There is a selection for how much of a time slice you want to see. All the stations transmitted in 1, 3, 6 hours etc. and how long a tail one wants to see. That's for tracking but if one hits "track all" all the stations in the area show up and there is an amateur weather station in Walnut to the northwest and one to the East. They're blue circles with WX in the middle. Most stations display temp, winds, rain, barometric pressure and can click on them and see graphs on the reported data. Some stations are up to date some go down but it's a resource one can look at for making decisions. A reliable weather station next to a launch site
can be very helpful especially the wind information.
If you lose the QCRS map, just type in "QCRS" in the track station window and you'll pull it up again. You can also put in addresses and I sometimes use this
instead of google earth. Kurt
 
Good flying today- hard to believe it is 80F in April!
 
Thanks for everyone who put on the launch. All though it was a bit windy I did manage to get my L2 :) Thank you Jason for your help with it.

Did not get as high as I expected but im guessing the wind had something to do with it. Will fly again at Mini-Midwest on same motor to compare.

Here is video of it getting dragged over 1800' Maybe the Fruity Chutes 48" Iris Ultra Compact was a bad choice lol but it did get 18FPS decent so that was good, maybe 18 down and 18 across :lol:

Congrats on your L2!
I wish I could have made it today. Weekends have been busy lately. What weekend is Mini-MWP?
