Your rocket stabilized under drogue, and the speed coming down was enough to pull the main free after the nose popped at apogee.

Thanks! Not sure if the L3 will come... dorm rooms in FFH aren't that big. ;) I'll definitely bring this rocket though.
The nose was unweighted, and the cords were both 20 feet long (might up that next time).

Good job Matt. You've come a lont way since that Onyx!

Can't wait to see you there! :) And I love that KBA load. Only thing is it was a hair expensive, but it was totally worth it for the L2. :)

First off congrats...great flight.

I interpreted the same suspect as Nytrunner. Shear pin failure on the main. I had this happen at 16,000+ AGL and recovered my rocket 3.46 miles from the pad. After a bit of analyses of the data from the TeleGPS and two altimeters, combined with process of elimination, I came to the conclusion that my shear pins failed, just like yous, a few seconds after my drogue, apogee event.

After that flight I added PEM nuts so I could screw the shear pins in for a bit more positive retention. As well as the convenience of being able to remove them, which is what I did on the main at apogee flight and I am sure it weakened them and contributed to the failure. I also did a bit more ground testing and backed off the apogee charge, as well as swapped out my apogee 20' harness for a 25' harness, FWIW.
