I'm working on the .ork for the Hornet again, and since I can't find my files for them (thanks to the HD crash) I don't trust my fin's measurements. I'd appreciate it if someone could scan their Hornet's fins (in matrix or out) with a ruler to help me with this. I also need to know the fin's thickness.

Thanks!
Jim

The .ork file is basically done... All I need is the confirmation on those fin dimensions.

Hi Jim,

The root edge of the fin is 2 1/4".
The leading and trailing edges are both 2 1/4"
The outside edge is 1 3/32"
Span from root edge to outside edge is just a hair under 2 3/16"
The fins just pulled from the kit bag are 1/8" thick
(That surprised me, I thought they would (or should) be 3/32" thick.

On this finished model I replaced the Estes name with the proper Centuri logo.
The first run of the Estes Hornet had a balsa nose cone at 4 15/16" exposed.
Later kits had the plastic nose cone at 5" exposed.

Thanks for the info Chris!

Problem is, it's after midnight here. So, I'll have to work it in the morning, 'cause, I'm about to fall asleep at the computer if I don't.

From an image posted by Craig Brooks on Facebook, I've confirmed the leading edge, and the trailing edge as 2.25", and my analysing of hcmbanjo's image shows the root edge as 2.1875", and not 2.25". I've also got the tip as closer to 1" exactly (maybe a tad (?1/32"?) smaller, but certainly not 1.09375". Both sources confirm .125" thick, which like hcmbanjo stated, seems oddly thick (and what started my doubts on my sim's accuracy).

OK... I found a way to get the dimensions exact to what Estes intended them to be (I went straight to the horse's mouth). Thanks so much guys for the info. As soon as I finish updating the .ork file, I'll post it.
