CZ how do you do your HED set up? I have heard of a couple different ways.

My HED setup for the Demon 98
Coupler = Av-Bay
Shock cord attached directly to nosecone tip
Tied a loop about 3/4 inches outside of nosecone to attach parachute
About 5/6 feet of shock cord, attach Nomex
Remaining 10 or 15 feet of shock cord goes to av-bay bulkplate. (Edited to include length)

For the Demon, I use a Recon 40 as main and the shock cord is 1/4" Kevlar. I use a OBH harness in the booster side just cause I like it and had a spare lying around, though I used a Nylon one for the original build and first couple flights. the 1/4" Kevlar has been in from the start.

When I pack the nose, I z-fold the shock cord and place it in the tip of the nosecone with the chute after. So, the chute bundle ends up right on the bulkplate. I use centrifuge tubes for my charges, and I just put them right on the bulkplate, no need to get them in the tip of the nosecone since the shock cord will pull the chute out not matter what. I've lost count of how many HED deployments I've done this way and never had a problem. Some tips that I try to keep in mind, I always wrap the chute bundle tightly so it's not "stuffed" into the nosecone, more of a loose fit. Then, most of the shock cord being in the tip of the nosecone pulls the bundle out. Not sure it really makes a difference, but since it's worked perfectly thus far, I'm not changing it.
For the 4" Polycarb nosecone on the Demon, I've been using 1.5g and 2.0g charges in the nosecone. I think I used a 1.0g charge during testing and it worked fine, but only popped about 3 feet. the 1.5g pulled out about 10 feet or so, 2.0g as backup. Keep in mind, my 2.0 centrifuge tubes are probably more like a 1.8 actual charge since the e-match head takes up space along with the putty.

Hope that's clear as mud. If you want, I can post pics.

No tracker?

No tracker?

CZTeacherman doesn't need a tracker- he summons mighty Cthulhu from the deep, who hands his rocket back to him- with the chute repacked and the shock cords folded properly.

Or he tapes the tracker to the shock cord between the av bay and the booster, so it comes out when the drogue comes out at apogee.

CZ thanks for info. So your saying you have a section of shock cord going from NC tip to coupler plate about 5-6' long and you feel that's all that's cord that s needed or that's about all that will fit. I would guess your tracker is on booster shock cord?

Thanks

Cthulhu sightings are not to be discussed in public lest he comes to claim what's due......
...
But yeah, I just use a tracker on the booster end.

Ah, no, the main chute shock cord is probably 20 feet or more (full length). The chute is attached close to the nosecone, Nomex is attached about 5 feet below the chute, then another 10-15 feet to the coupler.
So if we start at the nosecone, it goes: nosecone-3 inches of cord-chute-5 feet of cord-Nomex-15 feet of cord-av bay-booster shock cord and drogue-booster.

The MWP14 web site isn't working too well right now. Can't seem to get links to open to register or shop etc.

Registration and volunteer sign up worked seamlessly. (with one minor exception... I am NAR only, but it would not let me continue to checkout without a TRA number. Put my NAR number in the TRA slot and it accepted it, even though not entirely correct.)

Discrimination I say!

Can't pass up a deal like that! I'm in. Rules?

OK, let's make it simple...

1) Does it have swept fins attached to the tailcone?
2) Are there two, and only two, sections of VK shaped polycarbonate?
3) Is it now, or was it at one time, red and black?
And finally,
4) Does it fit the motor Tim is going to give us on Saturday, November 5th?

If you can say yes to all the above, you are in!

OK, how would you fit in three? Can we see that in OR or RS???

Adrian (by the way, I'm in!!!)

I will be there. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. And I promise not to be finishing my rocket mid launch this time! Oh, I'll be in on the drag race too.
