From the UROC website:

"Hellfire 21 "Aces High" is shaping up to be a great launch. The Utah Rocket Club's premier High Power Launch for the year will take place Thursday, August 4, 2016 through Sunday, August 7, 2016. We have folks coming in from all over and are expecting a fun time seeing old friends and making some new ones. We have received approval from the FAA which will allow us to grant flights up to 25,000 ft AGL. Over the next week or two, all of our sponsors, contests, and lots of other surprises will be making their way on to this website. In the meantme, please take a moment to register for the event. If you are planning on flying at HellFire you do need to register. Remember that Spectators are free. You only need to register and pay if you are planning on flying at HellFire."

Registration is open now, at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hellfi...etry-event-tickets-25698859982?ref=ebtnebregn

Rates are per family: $35 through June, $40 from July 1, $50 in person. Register early, so that the treasurer (me) can spend more time flying rockets and less time taking your $!

Thursday and Saturday are NAR launches, Friday and Sunday are TRA research launches.

Hotel information is now available, at https://uroc.org/index.php/hellfire-hotel#.V4U0PPkrJhE

My "big" flights - the ones I'm really looking forward to:
  • AAD-98 on an AT L875DM
  • Darkstar Jr. on a Loki K1127
This will be my first L ever, and probably my first K as well!

My not-so-big flights - the ones I'm looking forward to, but not with the same anticipation as the ones above:
  • Scarab 54 on a Loki J650SF (still need to see if it will actually fit in the sustainer)
  • Jayhawk on a J500G

Kinda Iffy

Hopefully there will be some smaller stuff in there as well, depending on time and circumstances. I know that as an officer of the club sponsoring the launch, I'm going to have plenty of duties to keep me busy. I still insist on having fun and flying at least one project per day!

Maybe I can get my Deuces Wild repaired and fly it on a pair of 18mm D motors. Just because I can!

Sharon and I just registered for this event. Second year for us. It's all Joe H's fault, we spent some time with him at LDRS, and he reminded us about all the fun we had last year.
I'm not gonna list all the rockets we will be bringing, but it will be a bunch!

Sounds like I need to finish my 3" Darkstar for a drag race. Ken has one, Wayne and Sharon each have one, and I'll finish mine. It's not too late for others to climb aboard. And I plan to launch my Wildman Junior two stage. I'm now confident with the dual deploy, having launched the Junior as a single stage at LDRS on an I and a J. I sure wish I could figure out my 70 cm BRB GPS tracker. I've also got a Darkstar Extreme that should be finished for its maiden launch out on the salt.

Anyone want a sweet 3" Darkstar for the drag race? I just might know where you can get one........

Want? Hell(fire) yeah!! Have $ for? That's going to be tough. Plus another $100 for a reload, on top of the $$$ I've spent on current motors. Wife might :bangpan: or even :kill:

At least I already have a 54/1706 casing... Or would I just get spanked b/c everyone else is going to fly a 54mm L?

Sharon and I were just talking this morning about what motor would be good for the drag race. We have several AT K540 Metalstorm motors that fit the 54/1706 casing. Yeah, it's a $100 motor, and looks like Stealth6 wants $260 for his (Blame it on the) Blackstar, so you might be into it for over $400 if you got all the extra stuff. I would have no problem spending that much for it, but others might. He builds great rockets, and despite the sacrilege he committed by not keeping the split fins, I love his design.
If we all agree, we could put a few bucks into a kitty for the winner, which would cover a portion of the cost of the winners motor. Then we would have to agree on what criteria indicates a win. Last time Ken whipped Sharon and I off the rod with a custom igniter, so we would have to even the field a bit for this race.... Maximum recorded altitude maybe?

Not that it's not worth it - it's that I don't have it... The $$$, that is. Stealth6/Dave does good work - he will be missed.

Maybe next year (for my participation in the drag race).

Ill be there. Not sure what im flying or if im flying anything at all.
First time in a few years.

Alex

I'm NOT in for the drag race. Tim will be placing his order soon so I would advise a pre order with him ASAP. I've run into some things and won't be attending this year. Hopefully next year will work out.

I have the 1706 case (he biggest one I own). I'll need to make sure Tim at Das Rockets can get me the reload.

Joe

We have a couple of extra K540's if you need one.

Bummer. It won't be the same without you, but I might have a chance to win the drag race now....
Sharon and I have started prepping rockets for this launch. We are bringing about 20 class 1 rockets to fly on Thursday, then we will up the game with some HPR flights. Sharon will probably fly her RW Stinger on an M1297 on Saturday, and I will return with the "Red Tailed Extreme" on another M1550 Redline.
With a little help from my friends:

I'm looking forward to it. I've finished the basic construction on my 3" Darkstar. I did the external fillets over the weekend outside and the rocketpoxy turned liquid in the heat and really made a mess. I've got a lot of sanding to do to clean things up. But I'll be ready for Wayne and Sharon to win the drag race. I'm honored to just be in it.

Will there be any vendors at the event to buy motors from? I just moved to the salt lake area but haven't been able to get my hands on anything yet buy would like to fly a couple rockets if I can buy some motors!

Welcome to the SLC area! Tim Boschert's Das Rocket Hobbies will be there. Tim stocks Aerotech MPR and HPR motors and reloads, as well as an assortment of Estes LPR motors. I'm sure he'll be happy to provide you with whatever you need.

Don't forget to preregister, so I can spend more time launching and less time registering people on site...

I believe that Tim is going out of business on the Estes black powder motors. If you want to buy LPR black powder motors, it would be best to buy some before going to Hellfire. Hobby Lobby in Layton, UT has some. Also, West Valley Hobbies in West Valley has BP motors. Tim has gone out of business on Cesaroni motors. As Bill says he has a wide assortment of Aerotech motors.

Hadn't heard about Estes. I know that he went out of business with CTI. I bought two 38mm VMax motors from his "clearance sale." Then came the one-two combo of the "VMax has to be flown with electronics" and "38mm closures need to be replaced" notices. Sigh.

Well, now I see that Hellfire is a week after I thought it was. There is a chance I might come out Saturday, especially seeing how I'm already registered. We'll just have to see how things play out.

Hope you can make it. We'll save the drag race for Saturday just in case.

Hey, Ben Whitfield has a Dark Star - I have the K540 - can we enter the Drag Race as a team? We'll be ready Saturday morning.....

Don't see why not. I can't imagine Sharon or Wayne objecting. If it's too many, for the system I'll back out, but I'm pretty sure we can do 5.

Joe

No problem here, but I would prefer to do this fairly early. Last year, we had to move a couple of launch pads to make it work, so we should do that before the range opens.
