I both love and hate the Honest John. Such an interesting missile. Such an odd shape. Such a pain to build properly or to scale.

That being said, I love them more than I hate them. I have a small collection started. Very small. I'm wanting to complete it as part of my "Every Estes ("real") Missile and Rocket Kit" collection.

So far I have:

K-27 Honest John
1269 Maxi Honest John
1919 Honest John
2446 Mini Honest John
7240 Honest John

Have I missed any other Estes kits for this missile? I have actual kits for all but the K-27. It's a clone build. Or will be. I need to order the nose from BMS.

Looks like there is a 1227 also, but it appears to be the same as the K-27.

Found the instructions to the Centuri KC-25, but no decals. Anyone got scans of them?

Though it's not a HoJo, there's the Estes Deep Space Transport (2034) that uses the same nosecone as the 1919 kit.

My Maxi Brute Honest John is called a #2166. It was purchased about 15 years ago.

Looked at that one a minute ago. Based on the instructions, it appears to be a 1269 re-release just like the K-27 and 1227.

That seems right. The copyright date says 1975/2000. The artwork on the box definitely looks like 1975, but I bought it around 2001 or so.

Recently found a Maxi Brute Honest John #2166 at a local hobby shop. The box had been opened, but upon inspection all parts were there. Kit left store with me. :)

If only I could get my hands on a K-27 or 1227 kit. Even if I have to return it. Just to get clear, even scans of the kit and measurements of the parts.

The only problem is that it doesn't have a scan of the rings. I have no clue what size the forward shroud ring should be.

There is a picture of them. Since I know the two are AR-2050 and I know the third is ID BT-50 maybe I can scale it an measure but not sure if I can get it right.

Hmm any details on that one? I've never seen it at all before.

I have discovered that the 1104 was a cold powered rocket. Wish I could find instructions and scans for it. Perhaps it could be converted to solid fuel or co2.

I imagine it could be converted fairly easily - in the catalog linked by dmo they sell a conversion kit for $0.49.

Couldn't see the details well on my phone. I still need the scans of it to reproduce it.

Got the nose cone for my K-27 clone in yesterday. Got my Mini HoJo on the table but not started. Got my 1919 HoJo sitting on top of the build pile. I'm now building the Maxi HoJo until I can make casts of the parts to reproduce repair parts. And maybe parts for cloning.

As soon as I get these all done, I'm going to get the small HoJo from MadCow. And if it goes on sale in November, the 4" version.

Oh, just an FYI, the Mini HoJo is a fun lil thing converted to 18mm....

Just sayin :)

I had actually been looking at that. I figured the K-27 was BT-50 and 18mm. Why couldn't the Mini HoJo be also? I picked up two of those. One to build stock and one to mod to 18mm. Did it require any additional nose weight to mod it?

My 18mm mini mod did. I added clay and I don't recall exactly how much but the total weight of the cone is now 38 grams. I figured out the weight needed by building the 13mm mount without gluing it into the airframe. Use that with an A10 to find the balance point. Replace that with the 18mm mount and a C6 and add clay until it balanced at the same place. Has flown on A,B and C motors, some times with a wiggle under thrust but always straight up.

BTW there are threads here with reports of successful flights and recovery with a 24mm motor in the mini ! I quick search and I didn't see where they specified how much nose weight was need for that one. Somebody always wants to go to "11" ! :)

I took a little bit of an educated guess. I did not add extra nose weight, BUT, my fins are much thicker than stock. I had planned on shaping them to the profile, but I haven't yet. Thicker fins, more base drag? I've flown it on As and Bs, but I think it would be -gone- on a C.

I've got a Maxi HoJo that needs its launch lug stand-offs replaced. I somehow stripped both front ones and half of one of the rear ones. I've got the plans from the JimZ site and that has the dimensions for the 1/16 inch balsa parts, but the 1/8 parts were drawn from a pattern sheet which I no longer have and the pattern sheet is not on JimZ's site. Anyone have dimensions?

A scan of the pattern sheet would be great if anyone has it.

Actually, I might be able to help. I'll check tomorrow and see if my Maxi HoJo has that sheet.
