I'm curious to see what rockets other people would like to see me sim. This doesn't mean that I will (or can) sim everything that is requested, I just want to get a feel for what others might be interested in seeing.

Have a crack at something doable but interesting. Nike Hercules or perhaps this:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-125_Neva/Pechora

You would get bonus points for making the transitions to scale, as the sustainer stage of either is almost a nose cone in and of itself.
It would be great to make the entire sustainer from paper transitions.

I'd like to see Estes' new Shuttle kit modeled, obviously once we can get our hands on one. If not that, the full-stack Saturn V, complete with escape tower.

Want a challenge? Sim the Pye Wacket (no, not the cat). I'm going to try building one of these - maybe starting with 1/4 scale, then working up to 100%.

Although a Pye Wacket the Cat Sim would be interesting too.
Pye Wacket the Cat is usually the first thing that comes up when I search for the missile, which is funny, as I never knew there was a Pye Wacket the Cat, but when I first learned about the missile, I said to myself, that sound like something some frumpy old Brit would name a Cat.

Huh. A lenticular missile... Now THAT would be a cool scale model.

What about any 'saucer' or spool shaped rocket?

What about a saucer with 4 (or more) canted motors, so it spins (on the flight axis) as it ascends...

Kim Novak a "frumpy old Brit"? I DON'T THINK SO! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051406/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I challenge you to sim a rocket with a Propulsive Landing System that will pass RSO inspection. You can review a kit wth propulsive breaking before chute deployment that is visco dependent here: https://store.heavenlyhobbies.com/01-024-0001.html. I want to see one that air starts propulsive breaking with an altimeter. Bonus if you can get it to land upright. I look forward to your overall design, ideal altitude for air start and motor selection. Good luck!

I've been trying for years to get someone to do this for me with my favorite rocket. If you have to, you can reduce the size of the forward fins 30%, I think Nytrunner did this part for me years ago.

And you hit me with that 4 years after the initial offer... and right during my busiest time of the year (make up classes, free make up classes due to online classes, help sessions, regular summer classes, AND regular classes, PLUS trying to get my visa updated)... It's going to be more than a week before I can even think of doing any sims.

Right now I'm waking up in the morning, eating, going to work at times/daysI normally would have off, teaching, gathering food, coming home, eating food, going to bed, waking up in the middle of the night playing on the computer for a little while, going to sleep, rinse, repeat (and dealing with a climate likened to a sauna).

Thank God summer is nearly over.

so you're moving next door?:questions:
Across the hall... Literally... I'm going from a 41 square meter apartment to a 52 square meter apartment. With my bed in the living room, my "shop" in the master bedroom, and the 2nd bedroom being dedicated to mass storage, I'll have a much more efficient (<- What? "I" before "E", except after "C"? No wonder I can't spell that F*****G word) space for my living and doing activities. My rent is going up 200 RMB per month ($30). I've been trying to get a new apartment for over 2 years now... And this one opened up tonight... I'd have had the keys if it wasn't for my workplace's manager needing to talk to someone ahead of time.

How about the Vander-Burn clone of the Mega Der Red Max which has a 38mm motor mount? If you sim it with a screw on 38mm retainer then the motor tube needs to stick out a minimum of 3/4 inch past the aft centering ring.

Until I finish moving (and I haven't started... yet)... I'm closed for business at the moment.

A coworker just left the company, and my hours almost doubled, combined with the move, and the need to move fast (apparently my current landlord is in a hurry to get this place rented out)... I'm beat.

That seems like a pretty nice $/sqft upgrade, but to be fair, I'm not sure the costs anywhere but around here.

Do you have a handful of days overlap so you can move more slowly in an organized manner or is it a super fast transition? When I was younger, I only allowed a day or two for the transition and it was really bad. Our last move we happened to have about a month overlap before putting the house on the market and it made the transition so much better. If I ever have to move again (honestly, I hope not) I think I'll try to figure out how to do it over a few months if possible.

Glad to hear about your upgrade!

Sandy.

I don't know if that's an exact $/sqft upgrade. My company pays for rents upto but not exceeding 2000rmb/month. I have no idea how much my current (smaller) apartment has gone for, but now they're paying the full 2000rmb, and I cover the difference.

The quality of the new apartment is also much better. Old has radiators in several locations which made it impossible to position furniture where I wanted it, new has radiant floor heating. So, I can put what I want, where I want. Old apartment has a narrow kitchen with the fridge located at the far end, and swinging towards the inside of the apartment (impossible for me to stand in front of and open the door, but I could squeeze in there by sucking in my belly once it was open. New has the fridge near the door, and while it does open towards the inside the apartment too, I can walk past it, open it, and not have to suck in my gut. Old apartment has a 1980s vintage washing machine (which stopped working some time ago, but I wasn't able to get replaced as I don't dare let the landlord in until I can clean the place (and I couldn't clean the place, due to the lack of space)), which has legs rusted off of it... New has a newer machine that looks pristine. One of the other nice features of the new is that it has a water heater with a reservoir, so I can take a shower at a constant temperature, rather than the old on demand water heater that gets warm for 2 minutes, then the temperature drops (its set to max and (in summer can get up to a level that says 50 (degrees C??? I don't know, but it's too hot) then it'll drop to a nice hot 40. In winter I'm lucky if it'll get to 38, before it drops to 22 (same setting on the water heater as in summer). The only way to build the temp back up is to turn the pressure of the shower down till it's more like being spit on than taking a shower.

People in the usa living in middle class homes with 1500 sq. ft. of space, don't have any idea of how fortunate they are. Things couldn't be more screwed up on the planet. The documentary, " The Venus Project" shows how we should have society planned out with every person having sufficient food, clothing, and shelter in a Resource Based Economy. No one would have to work and there is no money at all.

all settled in yet?
Nope... Can't access the mass storage room, and the workspace is a disaster. Being sick during the move really messed things up... Not having the time, boxes, or energy didn't help either... Then there's the make up classes I've had to do, and I'm STILL NOT DONE WITH THEM (AARGGGHHHHH!!!!)

Sorry for butting in, but I was really looking for something to help me put off doing real work...

I took a crack at this. For reference, I'm not much of a guru here, and I couldn't find a way to put the nose cone and tail caps on the fin pods, but I was able to figure most of the rest out. I put a 54mm mount in it, and simulated it with an Aerotech DMS L1000W (a motor I hope to use on one of my rockets next year). It doesn't include all the guts to be completely representative of a flight configuration (no recovery system and miscellaneous hardware bits), but shows the basic airframe.

With the forward fins at full size, it needs about 3 pounds of nose weight to have 1 caliber of stability. I scaled them down to 90% (still looks pretty close to original outline) and this allows the nose weight to be reduced to 2.5 pounds. Of course, a smaller motor would also lessen the nose weight demands, as would including a real avionics bay with altimeters and batteries.

Anyway, perhaps this gives you a head start when you're ready to tackle this project... (and figure out a way to put the nose cone and tailcaps on the fin pods). Let me know if you want me to throw an av-bay in there and make it a bit more representative of a flight-ready config. (may just do that anyway, since I have more real-work to put off) :)

Enjoy!

(EDIT: The more I think about it, I'm gonna work on it some more... needs to have through the wall fin tabs. I'll keep going to make a more accurate representation)

(Two attachments: one with original size forward fins, the other with 90% scaled forward fins)
