I have always liked Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas". Its a pretty song and he sings it beautifully.

If "Twelve Days of Christmas" comes on the radio I can't change stations fast enough. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I don't care who is singing it. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick. Ick.

Honorable mentions go to "You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch" and "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas". Both silly, but I enjoy them. We had a local radio personally say that she HATED the hippo song. So of course the station got flooded with requests to play that song during her shift. And I think she had to play it every day because of all the requests.

I'm so sick of felice navidad ever since it came out really....And man the Springsteen santa clause is coming to town, his voice is so strained and horrible in that song....yikes.
Karen Carpenters voice is pretty hard to beat on any christmas song, Burl Ives has a great christmas voice....of course Nat King cole....

Most hated: Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney
Runners up: Feliz Navidad by Freddy Fender & Santa Clause is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen

Most favorite: The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
Runners up: Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid & Silent Night by Bing Crosby

My favorite is Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) by Trans Siberian Orchestra. And I second the opinion of despising The 12 Days of Christmas...

<putting on my nomex underwear> Y'all can blame me since I have liked Feliz Navidad since it came out in the late 70's. </putting on my nomex underwear>.

As for dislikes, I dislike most newer Christmas songs and even older ones that are reinterpreted by pop singers (pop being very loosely defined). The ones by McCartney and The Boss are in that category. I like most any classic version. Here, Bing and Nat are good examples. There are many more, obviously. Throw in most anything by the Trans Siberian Orchestra or Mannheim Steam Roller into the 'like' category.

OH, Christmas Eve in Washington my Maureen McGovern is one of my all time favs.

Worst ever: "Last Christmas" by George Michael. plot synopsis: He had a bad breakup the day after Christmas a year ago and is clearly not over it yet.
Fa la la la la, la la, la, la.

Most of the old school carols are what I really like to hear. I like the Trans Siberian stuff too. I don't mind most of the newer songs.

I don't know why some songs are even played, like My Favorite Things. It's a pleasant enough song but not a Christmas song.

I hate hearing some songs like Last Christmas. That's not a Christmas song either and it's annoying. It has nothing to do with Christmas. It could be June 10th. It's just some insecure whiner who had a relationship that lasted one day, give or take a few hours for the timing of when she dumped him. A YEAR LATER, he's letting her know he's NOT going to have a relationship with her, but find someone SPECIAL. Good for you buddy, get some counseling and get off the Christmas playlist.

Most of all, Christmas Shoes makes me want to rip my ears off. I probably don't even need to elaborate.

Favorite, there are so many, but I have been listening to this one a lot this year.

Also this one.

Hated, anything my Mariah Carey

Most hated:
Johnny Cash singing the little Drummer Boy (this was on the BGM loop at Sea World for years)
Feliz Navidad done by anybody
Jessica Simpson singing Oh, Holy Night (the facial contortions are too much)
Grandma Got Run Over . . only funny the first ten times I heard it

Still Like
Christmas Song (Mel Torme, Nat King Cole)
Pentatonix (new, fresh and not over done)

I'm not sure that I can pick a clear favorite. The first one that I recall listening for was The Little Drummer Boy. We Three Kings and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen never fail to get me in the Christmas spirit and I always stop to listen when I hear Oh Little Town of Bethlehem (especially Amy Grant's arrangement). White Christmas is a tradition for my sisters and me (we would sing it on the way home from my aunt's house Christmas Eve) and it was always followed by The Christmas Song. And last, but certainly not least, I can't make it to the end of I'll Be Home for Christmas with a dry eye.

I can't say that I hate any of them. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas will wear on me by the end of the holidays and I have almost gotten my fill of Jingle Bell Rock already but I don't hate them. Now, my Momma HATES Blue Christmas so I try to make it extra special and sneak in the Porky Pig version for her at some point each year:grin:

P.S. +1 for The Grinch Song

I have a new favorite, though I suspect it will go the way of "Simply Having a Wonderful Xmas Time" by McCartney all too soon.

If you haven't heard Chris Rea sing "Driving Home for Xmas", you should either do a google search or a YouTube Search to hear it, or better yet, call up your favorite radio station and ask them to pop it into their rotation a little earlier for you and his fans....

Most irritating: Santa Baby, sung by anyone...
I saw Momma Kissing Santa Claus by anyone...
Alvin & the Chipmonks, Two Front Teeth, Hippotimous, and Oh Holy Night...
followed by "Oh What a Night" (late December back in '63) by Frankie Valley...

All depends upon the mood I'm in.
Only listen to KGB San Diago on Iheart, they haven't played any so far that I have heard.
My favorite has got to be Grandma got ran over by a raindeer.
Brings back a lot of childhood memories.
No, my granny didn't get ran over.

This is easy, various renditions of these:

I like this one not only because of the tune, but its era - I'll Be Home for Christmas: "The song is sung from the point of view of a soldier stationed overseas during WWII, writing a letter to his family. In the message, he tells the family he will be coming home and to prepare the holiday for him, and requests snow, mistletoe, and presents on the tree. The song ends on a melancholy note, with the soldier saying, 'I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.'"

This CD is a great addition to a collection of Christmas classics, since it is a break from the norm. A few are a little odd (#7, quirky, and my daughters' favorite. Oh, #8 by The Kinks -- very, very strange). But my favorites are #4 and 5 -- the songs by The Moody Blues, and by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. These for me are classics. I replay both when the CD finishes, they are that good. I'm not much of an Elton John fan, but the opening track is pretty good. I bought this CD maybe 20 years ago, but found copies a few years later for our now grown daughters. May still be around, I just have not checked. UPDATE: Amazon has it for $4.99, has a different cover. Also, an 11th track was added. A song by George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Might buy it just to get the latest!

This was the favorite CD to play while decorating the tree with the kids. The other CDs we listened to were all the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CDs. If you haven't heard anything from these, I'm not sure where you've been hiding. :)

Sorry, iPad rotates images ...

Favorite: Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) by Trans Siberian Orchestra, second favorite: Carol of the Bells by Manheim Steamroller

Most Hated: Last Christmas BY Wham! followed by Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt (or anyone else)

I really dig the 1965 version of Sleigh Ride by Andy Williams. First heard it on a compilation a few years ago and just love the upbeat early '60s vibe. Also love The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - sounds great and also mentions the old English practice of reading ghost stories for the holidays.

I can't take "Grandma" and recently heard a song about Santa on a beach that just seemed too goofy.

That's the track #7 That I mentioned above as my daughter's favorite, on the 20 year old Rock 'n' Roll CD. Over time I've found myself liking it more and more. After checking out the YouTubes on this, I'll have to forward the version by the Spice Girls to my daughters. They loved them. :)

Remember, Christmas Eve (Sarajevo) was actually a Savatage song first.
