Total Knee Replacement

Well, I went and did it. Had a total knee replacement almost a week ago.

The partial, from December didn't take well, and I was still having problems.

Not sure what the job front will look like down the road, so while I'm fully covered with two insurances I decided to go for it. Another week or so of working virtual then back into the salt mines.

Already doing better with this one, although there's been some TMI complications.

I am astounded by the number of people here at work who are going in for knee and hip replacements right now. I think it is a conscious effort to get them done while they are still employed with insurance.

Yes, actually, those were my exact words to the doc. Need to get it done, while I know I have insurance and no copayments.

Artificial replacement. Titanium even.

I've mentioned it elsewhere, but growing up watching the Six Million Dollar man I thought it was sci-fi; not reality television. As I get older, and have body parts replaced, I'm quickly becoming my father.

Shame your motive was in part financial rather than clinical.
We don't pay at the point of use here. If I needed a new knee, and mine are not that good, I'd get it.

In all actuality, I do have medical care for life as I'm a military retiree. Just between this and my insurance from my present employer, there's no copays.

In all actuality, as some know, I used to live a very active lifestyle until I retired out from the AF. In total, between the two knees, I've been down for about four years and just wanted to get beyond this. The doctors theory is to go as long as you before doing anything. Unfortunately, this includes ingesting as many pain meds as you can tolerate. Looking at it from a holistic point of view, I don't want to effect my other body systems for a knee that can simply be "plugged-n-played". After a few months of course.

Am looking forward to getting into active things again such as endurance cycling and fresh water kayaking.

Not meant as an insult to the orinator of the thread but someone post that knees and hips are replace more common today. Hips are primarily replace due to fracture in the elderly so as we age, yes they will become more frequent. The knees are another story. Knees are replaced commonly in the obese due to wear and tear and the excess weight load. American is getting fatter so yes we will have mroe of those too.

Knee replacements have come a long way and fascinating equipment. Good luck.

A little askew of the subject here - we had our dog's knees replaced about 6 years ago. We've thought of him as the Bionic Beagle since then. I hope things go as well for you as they did for Herbie.
