New rocket club in Kansas

Just wanted to announce that I have started a new club in Kansas. We plan on chartering with the NAR next month. So far we have seven members and a field just south of I-70 off of 177 out of Manhattan that will allow us just enough room to apply for a waiver to 6,000 ft. but we are looking for a larger field to use for high power. If anyone is interested our membership fees are $10.00 per person and we have a $5.00 flying fee per person (per event).

The club is called Kansas Rocketry And Space Hobbies (K.R.A.S.H.) and we provide a monthly newsletter (by snail-mail) and will have a facebook page up soon and hope to have a steady monthly launch calender up soon. Don't sell yourself short. You mentioned a 6000' waiver possibility and that's more than enough to fly high power. Lots of clubs don't have one that high and still have many hpr flyers but it is a good idea to find another field to use as a backup. Our local club has two and usually alternates fields from month to month depending on what activities are planned.

Agreed!

Most folks I know can do much of their flying in 6,000'.

That said, for the folks from KRASH, if they need/want a higher waiver for a specific flight, they have us (THOR) a couple hours to the north, and KLOUDBusters a couple hours to the south.

KRASH' location works out well, I know there are a number of rocketry folks who live in that region, and it sounds like they're off to a great start.

That was an unfortunate event. Fortunately, the ground was fairly soft, and it should be a fairly straightforward repair.

Thats no good My family and I went to the air and space museum and then came home today, we went through all of that mess. Lots and lots of rain.

The museum isn't too bad of a drive from the launch site. It's amazing when you figure out just how large the main building is, to house all those aircraft!

And yeah, lots of rain. Up here in the Omaha area, it has been raining all day. Right now, it's a major downpour. Just what we needed, with flooding already a problem for some.

Is K.R.A.S.H. planning a launch on July 3? That is a long weekend for me and I still have motors to burn (since we rained out for day two of NE Heat). If it works out I might be able to drive down. Manhattan isn't far.

We are supposed to. Our waiver does not take effect till August 2nd so it would have to be all class 1 stuff.
