Started on the upscaled EAC VIPER to a BT-60 tube. It is 26.5" tall and will be fitted to accept an "E" motor. Built a fin alignment tool and like it a lot, it is like fletching arrows. Aligning the front and rear fins was a breeze. It is set up so that it can do 8 fins on a BT-20 tube and with spacers it can handle up 3" Dia tubes.

BABAR - the D12 will give it an apogee of 159m.

Got the fillets done and the sanding sealer on. Next step is to coat the fins with tissue paper & polycrylic.

Your craftsmanship is off the charts. Thanks for the build thread.

Truly an awesome upscale with a lot of motor options. Slip an Aerotech F32-5 into this... nearly perfect delay and it apogee's at 1577 feet! Yowza.

Thank you, it has been a long time since I had the oppertunity to build anything so I am really enjoying it. I've finished the fins with tissue paper. They should take paint really well.

Now you have me intrigued, I have to see if I can get some F32-5s. Waiting on the Kevlar for the shock cord to arrive before I install the engine mount, don't think I can trust an elastic band on this one. Painting will have to wait for better weather, Seattle and it's raining, again!

what did you use for your fillets?
Started out with a couple of thin beads of Titebond wood glue blended in with my finger, then a layer of MINWAX woodfiller to build it up, the a skim coat of Sherwin-Williams Shrink-Free Spackle to smooth everything out. Then I applied a layer of tissue paper using matt polycrylic. Sanding between each layer with 400 grit sandpaper. this is the result so far. The matt poly acts a sanding sealer.

Rustoelum magenta satin is the closet I could find that matches the decals I am making. May leave it a satin finish, have to see how it looks. The weather is suppose to dry out this nex week so I might be able to start painting soon.

Thanks! That’s the same conclusion that I came to in shopping for paint. Some glossy clear coat over the satin might do OK on the finished rocket.

For the yellow the Cub Cadet yellow looks pretty good too me.

I’m planning on the same project, a BT-60 EAC Viper.
