Semroc Moon Glo build issue

Hi...
New to the Forum and returning to Rocketry after a few years absent...Semroc was kind enough to include a bonus Moon Glo Rocket kit with my order...but what was puzzling to me that one of the first steps...gluing the engine retainer into the body tube was challenging...the ring itself is designed to slide into the inside diameter of the tube...but when the instructions call for the kevlar cord tied to ring..the string protrudes on the outside of the ring...and frustratingly not trying to and eventually forcing the ring into the tube misshaped and damaged the tube...any thoughts...I didn't think I would have a difficult time with one of the first steps!

The ring is not that thick.....though a shallow groove will help.

I brute-forced it in when I built my Moon-Glo and you can see it clearly if you get really really close....but it still works OK and flies fine.
