So, I just received a new reload order directly from Loki Research, and it seems they've decided (like Aerotech did a few years ago) to ditch the plastic bag packaging in favor of svelte, tough cardboard tubes. And similar to Aerotech's new shipping tubes, Loki's are also reusable as an assembled-motor carrier, protecting the motor casing from scratches or dings until launch time. But Loki, as usual, adds its own clever style.

The difference is that (at least in the 38/480, 11.5" casing), the Loki mailing tube is sized like a precision 38mm motor tube of thick, tough cardboard instead of Aerotech's much looser fit. The assembled motor will fit into the tube right up to the thrust ring with just enough room in the opposite end to include your favorite compact ignitor.

So how to cap the package? Just shave off the two inner pry-off ribs (highlighted in red, below) from the Loki mailing tube's plastic end cap with an Exacto knife, and it will then snap right on to the aft end of the assembled motor, right up to the thrust ring.

The cap protects the assembled motor's case aft end and the nozzle from damage.

Lastly, wrap the end cap and the cardboard tube's aft end in a length of packing tape, and voila , your assembled Loki motor is ready to safely toss into the range bag. The original Loki label identifies the contents. And your motor is protected from the scratches, dings, and scuffs that expensive and gorgeous Loki anodizing is heir to during those long stretches between events.
