I have not given this thread the attention it deserves for a few days, just glanced in every now and then. I want to thank everyone for their input. It is appreciated.
Unfortunately, the project has come to a teporary screeching halt. At least I hope its temporary. The tech guy was out to look at the plotter last week and I had an email waiting for me this morning. He says there are 2 choices, neither of which is a guarentee.
1. Order a new encoder strip for $185 plus whatever it takes in time to put it in.
2. Order a new set of slide bearings for $780 plus installation.
Neither is guarenteed to solve the problem. Its just part of HPs "replace parts until something works or you run out of money or you join a monastery" repair program.
If anyone has experience with an HP Designjet 5000PS I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks again for all the input.
