On some of the Altitude records instead of indicating altitude in meters some have a large number disignated by a "p". What in the world does that stand for?

From the NAR website;
"The prefix "P" in front of the rule number denotes a pending record (not yet finalized)"

True, but I think in this case Roy is talking about the super-roc events, where the record is in points (Hence the "p").
In Super-Roc the altitude in meters or the duration in seconds is multiplied by the model length in cm. (Each impulse class has a minimum and maximum length.)
