H13's burn for about 15 seconds (compared to 0.3 seconds for the fastest H class motors). Being a newbie I did not immediately recognize what a feat these beasts are. The H13 has about 3 pounds of thrust, to loft a two pound aircraft for a thrust to weight ratio barely greater than an F16 fighter plane (it has to be actively steered on the way up, and would likely not be stable on its own).

Two pounds is a lot for the H13 motor, but quite light for a model that is 4-6 feet long. Material selection and construction are very exacting to make this work - besides the airframe and motor, weight needs to be reserved for the radio, servos, battery, etc.

Here is another from the same event (that gets up close and personal with the camera).
