The Southern Arizona Rocketry Association (SARA) announces its 9th annual winter rocket launch, Desert Heat 2014, to be held March 29-30 at the Tucson International Modelplex Park Association field at 3250 N. Reservation Road. Rockets will be launched 9AM until 5PM on Saturday and 9AM until 1PM on Sunday. A night launch will be held on Saturday from 6PM until 9PM.

Desert Heat 2014 is a two-day rocket extravaganza that includes fun, raffles, prizes and events for the whole family, featuring the popular mass launch of 50 rockets on both Saturday and Sunday at 11AM. Each rocket is numbered and all 50 will be launched simultaneously. After they land, the kids are encouraged to retrieve one and trade it in for a prize.

Spectators are welcome and always free. Rocket rentals are available for $2 per launch and include a motor! Event details are at https://sararocketry.org/index.php/desert-heat-2014.

The event is hosted by SARA, a group of model rocketry hobbyists and enthusiasts promoting the safe enjoyment of model and high power rocketry; encouraging interest by youth in science and engineering; increasing awareness of the hobby among the general public; and enjoying the sheer fun if it!

Located between Manville Road and Mile Wide Road the Tucson International Modelplex Park Association launch facility includes a hangar, a paved runway and a ramada with restrooms and water. Take your favorite route to Saguaro National Park West or Old Tucson, and then follow the signs to the launch! GPS coordinates are +32° 15' 53.06", -111° 16' 25.90.

The club has a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) waiver allowing high power rockets flying to an altitude of 6,500' Above Ground Level (AGL).

Bring a lawn chair for best viewing. There is very limited shade at the launch site, so bring a hat and sunscreen, and please leave pets at home.

Food and rocket vendors will be on-site to supply you with everything you need for this event. Recreational RV parking is available, but no hookups are available.

Launch fees for Desert Heat 2014 are $15.00 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday for adults. SARA members receive a $5 discount each day. Kids under 18 always launch for FREE!

About SARA: SARA is a National Association of Rocketry (NAR) section formed in 1994. In 2005 SARA also became a Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA) prefecture. The club members promote model and high power rocketry, educate themselves and the public, and have fun. SARA has members with a wide range of interests and skill levels. Some are beginners building their first model rockets and several are participating in high power rocketry.
