On the recomendation of my dad, I found this stuff at Lowes. My receipt reads,"12592 Step Flashing Alum 3"x4"x" and the rest is truncated. I measured it's thickness at .01" or less. Look for it where you would find roofing and gutter stuff. The best part is that I got it at only 35 cents marked down from 45 cents.

Empty soft drink/beer cans are a great source of shim stock.

Its true, but you should rub off the paint first with steel wool. bare Aluminum is nice & sticky.
Did you get that from "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" ?
One of my all time favorite books.

nice source for material and call it what you will , however "shimstock" is tempered steel , stainless steel or a special plastic, it doesn't compress like aluminum ( compression is a key property of shimstock). it maintains it's thickness under heavy pressure.
