This is a 94.7% scale model of Argentina's Orion 2 sounding rocket. Primary data was taken from Alway's book Rockets of the World. Supplemental data was retrieved from Wikepedia and Encyclopedia Astronautica.
Scaled data - Height: 149.134 in (12.43 ft), Diameter: 7.68 in (0.640 ft), Span: 30.200 in (2.52 ft), Empty Weight: 31.5 lb. (with epoxy), Motor Tube: 98mm x 24 in.
Rocket could use LOC 7.5" tubing or PML 7.5" tubing or Giant Leap 7.5" tubing
This model could be used for a L3 certification.
The nose cone could be custom turned on a lathe out of basswood or styrofoam with a 2" seat. The shoulder is turned to fit inside of a coupler and the two glued together. This allows for more room in the airframe for the main parachute.
The simulations were run using 31.5 lbs. and not the listed 30lbs. The CG shifts 1.33" towards the fins with additional 1.5 lbs. of epoxy. (Add 23 ozs. located 8 in from the front of the third airframe tube with the MMT/fin can to compensate. This forum limits the size of rocsim files to 195k.)
