I think the paint is fantastic. It looks like what he did was to paint using clear gloss. This way, the details of the construction are still there and the model is left a single color, but the details/logos/graphics are all shiny against a matte background. Again, I think the effect is excellent.

It's interesting you started your post with the word "clearly". It's absolutely clear what he did. (pun).
