I saw this website advertised in the classified ads on ROL. According to a rocketeer on ROL he got a new laptop as a gift for buying two cell phone signal boosters at the cost of $40. It seems to be one of those websites you see people auction the links for on eBay. In my opinion, it is at best a gamble, at worst it is a complete waste of money. I'm sure some of you guys have an opinion on the matter.

I did it but this is what you have to do to get it.
You pay $40 for two cell Phone boosters. Then you pick out what freebee you want i.e. the laptop. Then they put your name on a list to receive the laptop when they get them to ship to you. They tell you that the list will remain privet for the next 48 hours.
I did this last week and have not been hit with any Spam Yet. I am still waiting for notification of when the laptop will be shipped.
As an added bit of info I emailed the guy who posted the ROL add and have not seen a “receive” or “read” notice yet either.
Will post on this thread if any thing happens either way.

Good Deal or Good Scam

My vote is none of the above, its a bad scam.

If it seems too good to be true...

Even worse those cell phone boosters don't work either! Someone gave me one and it made no difference whatsoever.

A few years ago I met a man who gave me his business card after telling me he "sold" free legal advice.

I made a point of getting his attention before he walked away so he could see me tear up his business card!

there was one of these that was true, something with free ipods... the creator apparently wanted to test how many people would truthfully do it for his own enjoyment... and yep, he really did sent out ipods to people

Any real way to boost you sell phone on transmit would require an amp & thats a no no to the FCC! Big fine if they catch you!

Read the fine print.

You have to have "sign up" 80 other people buy the cellfone booster, then you get your laptop, camcorder, or whatever. This encourages people to go out and spam forums, friends, etc. with lots of "it really works!" messages, promising them something for next to nothing.

In other words, folks, it's a new spin on an old idea - the pyramid scheme.

I spent two hours going though every page before I PayPaled the money. I even did a PayPal search to see if anyone was mad at them. I did not see anything about signing up any one. You would think that if that was their motive they would have told you, so you would start spamming for them.????

:D Hay everyone you need to get one of these so I can get my free laptop……

"The waiting time for a free gift depends on a number of factors, including your choice of free gift, the length of your waiting list, the number of people you introduce and the amount of interest in that particular free gift. The amount of time you have to wait for your free gift depends on your position in the waiting list. For example, if your chosen free gift requires 19 sales before your free gift is sent out and you are 5th on the list, you will have to wait for 19x5 sales."

I have look at the so-called booster and it looks like it is a passive harmonic wave amplifier. Basically it is increasing the physical size of the antenna, with out actually connecting to the antenna. We would use a similar device that was a sticker on the windshield or the back window to help with our hand held radios. So if you are in a hard to reach area but have some signal it should help out. But if you have no signal at all i.e. no coverage, noting is going to help. When I get mine I will be doing some test with my HAM buddies to see. I will post the results here.

Those stickers don't work. Most handheld transievers don't have much of a ground plain (the ground for the antenna), and mose use the metal chasie for this. These stickers supposively work by increasing the size of the groundplain, but.. they are not actually touching the groundplain... so its mute.

To really increase the signal strength, you can create what is called a tiger tail. It is simply a wire that connects to the base (ground) of the antenna, which increases the groundplain. This does work, and I have used it with my first 2m Ht. However, the length of wire to use depends on the frequency you want to use... and cell phones have a wide margin for this.. so even if those stupid stickers did work... they wouldn't be universal....

My better half uses this word all the time and I keep telling her, "it's not the way the word is pronounced or spelled."
Just so happens I'm reading this thread and she's in the room and says "ah ha! told you so!"
Well, the dictionary came out and we settled that.

Not pickin on ya Doug, just something I wanted to prove to her.
Of course, I can't let her see this thread now.... ;)

This was a common ploy for plasma TVs a year or two ago. I is a pyramid scheme but the way it is structured it is quasi-legal in a few states. The key is that you do get something for your money the cell booster or whatever. A true pyramid scheme is just an exchange of money with no goods.

With the plasma TVs you bought something you knew to be worthless for something like $100 dollors and every 50-100 people got a TV. But like Stymye showed above this is a scam for the mathematically challenged as it gets exponentially harder for the next guy on the list.

If I remember what I read on it a number of States Attorney Generals were looking into the scams and were also seeing if they could get laws changed to refect this new version of an old scam.

If you are very early on the list, which is usually taken buy the list or web site makers friends, you do have a chance to get you item but if you are not far down the list and you are just buying crap.

Best to just avoid them all together. The guy on ROL is probably trying to drum up more fools to sign up so that he can get his item. He needs more people to buy in order to have any hope of realizing his gain and he is not averse to tricking others into the same scam that got him.

Any time the URL is something like getgifts4free.com, avoid it like a badger on speed.

I'm glad I asked before I even though about giving them my money. You guys confirmed what I thought, if it looks and smells like a scam it is a scam.
