Hobby Lobby has all their balsa & basswood strips on sale for 1/2 price. They have a reasonably good selection. May 5th -10th.

American Science and Surplus has basswood strips that are eighth inch thick by two inches wide and of varying lengths. They're sold per five count and priced by length:
25 inches - 2.50
31 inches - 3.00
37 inches - 3.75
They've got lengths up to 7.5 feet but you'd have to call on prices. The bunch I got are really nice, no knots. Seems to make really nice fins.
